OH, My aching back.....
Does anyone here suffer from problems with their sciatic nerve? Is there anything that I can do at home to help ease some of the pain? I have been taking over the counter pain meds for a week and the pain is so aggravating.

I wish I knew how to get rid of back pain! I'm at home today for that very reason.
Cleaning stalls and pushing wheelbarrows for one week totally screwed my back up again. I have an old fracture and mild scoliosis, and whenever one part goes my whole back hurts- neck to hips, and yes I can trace my sciatic nerve down the back of my leg when I'm hurting enough!
Valerian root capsules are cheap and do help. They are antispasmodic. It helps to be able to lay down and go to sleep after you take them

The sciatic nerve goes thru the piriformis muscle. If the piriformis muscle is tight the nerve gets pinched and can cause pain. Try the stretches at the following link and see if it helps. http://www.drbackman.com/piriformis-muscle-stretch.htm I have to remind my Mom to do hers, even though it does help her. Good luck.

So far all I do is take 4 Advil at a time (on more than 8 Advil a day) and occasionally will stay home and just lie there.
Both my parents, especially my daddy, had back problems. And my brother has had back surgery. So I guess I'm doomed.

I have to say that I am one of the people that has a bad back and suffers from sciatica every so often. I have spurs and degenerating discs in my back and the only thing that helps is going to the chiopractor. Matter of fact I have an appointment tomorrow to try and help my lower back that has been bothering me lately. You might want to try either a cold pack or hot pack. If one doesn't help the other just might. Good luck.

I use a chiro., an inversion table, the hottub, and heat packs sometimes when I'm too tired or lazy to do the hottub. I also take nsaids when the pain is really bad. I hope you get some relief soon, it's miserable for sure.

Ceashels, thanks for the link. I've done stretching in the past which has helped, so I'm definitely doing these.
