Diagnosed with Diabetes..type 2
Well I just heard from the endocrinologist today. He was happy that my blood pressure was under control. My cholestrol, was high, in July but without medication I got it down from 241 to 178. yea! But my sugar was high. the range was normal as 6 and mine was a 10.
He is giving me Janumet tab.. two times a day. To see if it can be controled.
I guess I am writing cause I feel so sorry for myself. What a case I am . I really have busted my but to lose weight, exercise, eat right. I guess it is working. I have lost 15lbs. But it was sooo hard. And now, diabetes.
What am I to do...I feel so lost.. I am looking at all the information and it is overwhelming. Almost afraid to take the medicine, what if it makes me sick, or my sugar drops. I hate this. I guess there is no road back.
SO here I am 47, fat, diabetic, high bloodpressure, thinning hair, and tired all the time.....
I have thought about it all and all I can do is continue to do the right things as well as I can. I think taking the medicine scares me.. but I am sure I will pull it together after the shock wears off. Hey maybe it will make me feel better....
Well now that I have whinned.. thanks for listening... It always feel better to get it out...
thanks always.

I'm diabetic and it was caused by my asthma meds........ I also have HBP because of the asthma meds........ The first of the year I'm goin on a high protein diet and veggies to try and lose some more weight. I've lost over a 100 lbs and I feel worse then before. They only want me to lose 50 more lbs. I'm hoping by May to have lost half.
Take the meds....... you won't be as tired.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

As a long time diabetic I understand. Hugs! The good thing is that in the early stages much of it can be reversed with lifestyle changes. The best bit of eating advice is to cut out processed carbs and eat whole food. Always eat a carb with protein (say apple with peanut butter). It gets easier and after a bit it will just be second nature to you.
I hate to ask but I read thinning hair. Have you ever been tested for pcos? They go hand in hand. Don't fret you can get fit and healthy!~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

I'm sorry to hear this. Dh and I are both diabetic. Please check out www.diabetesforums.com. Their forums helped me to better understand what was going on with our bodies and there was a lot of useful information. I also have a blog full of diabetic dessert recipes at www.diabeticpastrychef.com. Wishing you all the best!

My mother was diagnosed type 2 diabetes about 2 years ago. Oddly it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It was the wake up call she needed to start taking care of herself and to get control of her eating habits. She immediately quit eating sugar and lost 35 lbs in 3 months. She even told her doctor that she didn't know before how bad she felt until she started lose weight and change her eating habits. She has so much more energy and actually for the first time she feels satisfied when she eats and isn't constantly hungry.
Hang in there! It is a little bit of trial and error to find out what works for you but things will get better. One piece of advice that mom can offer is to pay attention to your carbs. Mom went to a nutrionist when first diagnosed and the nutrionist told her to eat 3 properly poritoned carbs with every meal. It took her a while to figure out that she didn't need that many carbs and cut down to one carb per meal and snacks on protien or the 1 carb to 1 protien ratio that someone else mentioned.

Sorry for your news Louise but this will have you taking better care of yourself. My SIL is diabetic & one of the biggest helps to her was finding a diabetic cookbook that allowed her to easily see how she could feed her whole family with her new restrictions & nobody had to suffer at all. It will help you see how you can adapt your old family favorites to a new healthier version & that's a win-win for everyone. She's a big fan of Betty Crocker. If you want I can ask her what other cookbooks she recommends.
Good luck, you can do this!!~*Darlene*~

Congratulations on bringing your cholesterol level down! Losing weight can really make a difference and will help your whole body in so many ways. I know all that information can seem overwhelming, but try to take one day at a time to focus on what you can do for that day. Good luck and

Big hugs to you. Been there, done that and have all five t-shirts. Seriously, I was diagnosed several years ago at a young age. Total shock and surprise since I was a very active, athletic and did not fit the typical profile for adult onset diabetes.
I now take up to 10 shots a day. I wake up and start my day off with three shots - two are my long lasting insullin and the third is my fast acting. From there I have to have a shot before each meal/snack and often times I miss calculate my number of carbs eaten and have to take an additional shot. I do not do the type that has to be drawn up. I use a insulin pen that I just dial up the doage and shoot away. I should be on a pump but I am a little creeped out by it and am not ready for that just yet.
Best advice I can give is to go to a diabetic nutritionist and a diabetic education class - normally offered by local hospitals.
Everybody and their brothers are going to try and tell you what you can/cannot do, what you should/should not eat etc....Get the info from a trained professional - face to face and one on one if possible.
Also, make sure you have a good endocrinologist. I could not get in with one for over a year(I live in a city of over 200,000 and we only have 2 endocrinologists. Of those two only 1 was taking new patients). For that time I had to see my regular doctor. Big mistake. He was clueless as to how to treat me and at one time had me taking 19 pills a day. Yeah - at age 30 I was popping meds like a 95 year old. All the while my glucose levels were still rising, periphial neuropathy was taking over my hands and legs, chronic kidney disease was progressing and like you, my hair was falling out. Now at age 34 I am paying for the fact that I did not have a doctor who specialized in diabetes. I have no feeling in my hands, feet or up my legs about a foot and a half. My hair has grown back in - once I got my glucose levels under control. I do sleep a good bit, but I have always been a sleeper. Taking a nap everyday is something I have always done. A good endocrinologist is soooo important (IMHO).
If you ever get sad, frustrated or whatever and need to talk - feel free to pm me. There is a huge range of emotions you may go through and sometimes we feel like no one understands. I know for me it could all be a little ovewhelming - even now I have my moments.

Ms. Louise, I'm so sorry. My dad and sister had/have type 2 Diabetes so I get checked every 6 months. So far so good, but I cut back on my food portions and I have lost 20 lbs just this last year. I also have controlled high blood pressure which I take meds for and a pill to bring down my high cholestrol and bring up the good. It all can be overwhelming, but it can be managed. My sister say's she feels better now than she has for years. She was diagnosed a year ago. Yes, take your meds and know that you are in my prayers.
