Smile How do you handle eating at night?

It seems like I'm always starving after dinner, around 9:00 at night!!!! I've been eating air popped popcorn, but can't take it every night!! Give me some suggestions!

I usually try to get in the last of my water for the day. I will also make myself a hot drink around 8 and sip on that for the rest of the night. I've read if you try hard to make it a habit not to eat that you will eventually not be hungry anymore. This is only my second week of not snacking so we'll see!

    Smile veggie "popcorn"

I like drinking hot drinks, usually tea. I make it REALLY hot so that I have to sip and blow, sip and blow.

Years ago in Weight Watchers, they suggested cutting up celery and carrots into small pieces, and munching on them as you would popcorn. It worked.

Also some toasted nuts are good....... just a handful. Or a small bowl of dry cereal can be crunchy like popcorn. Just watch the sugar!

Hubby eats a small carton of yogurt and swears by that.

I'm not much of a snacker, but these are some options!

    Smile Me, again.........

Forgot to say this in my last post: I find that when I have something low-carb, and high protein, it curbs my appetite. It seems to control the blood sugar spikes and dips. You might try a piece of cheese or lean meat like a chunk of cold chicken or ham. Eat a boiled egg. Get a spoon of peanut butter. The protein in these foods really stops the cravings for lots of snacks. I had a problem with blood sugar spikes and dips, and my doctor recommended that I keep a string cheese stick in my purse, or have one of the above snacks to even out the craving and symptoms.

    hi,

i agree with the pp, I only really feel hungry later on if I've not had some decent protein with my dinner. Protein based meals do seem to make me feel fuller for longer. Maybe it would help to look at your main meal as well as any snacks later on?

I was a big ice cream eater at 9 pm for a long time. It's only recently that I've stopped, and I agree with the above post that said that if you can power through about a week without that night snack, your body will stop craving it.

Sometimes when we feel hungry it's because we're dehydrated, so try drinking something. Maybe a sugar free, fat free hot chocolate!

I sip on Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper at night. It provides me with something fizzy and tasty but it has no calories or caffeine so it won't disturb my sleep.

Try using a pretty mug or special cup to make yourself feel pampered.

I now just take a big water with me, and try to stay out of the kitchen. I make sure I get a protein at dinner and I last longer. If I can't make it, sometimes, I make a warm chicken boulion. It fills me..but the sodium is a bit. But I figure once in awhile is not bad. Other times maybe an apple

I am doing WW so I leave myself enough points for a hot chocolate made from low fat milk. That way I actually get a milk serving in also and I'm satisfied with the delicious sweetness!
Also, brush your teeth as soon as you are done eating for the night or when you start to think you want to eat ..nobody wants to eat with minty mouth!!

~Have a banana. They are very filling and an 8 inch one is about 100 calories. Or have cereal. A serving with 1/2 cup of skim milk is about 150 cals. Just try to remember, as other posters have suggested, that if you're gonna snack, make it count. Get in the rest of your daily water and veggies before having less nutritious grains. I also find that if I brush my teeth after dinner I'm less likely to snack because I don't want to brush, floss and rinse again.~

I just don't eat after dinner. IF I'm having an attack that just won't be curbed by anything else I'll have a piece of fruit. Otherwise it's nothing other than water after dinner. It takes a while to get past the cravings but they do eventually go away.

I found that I wanted to snack around 10 at night. So I went to bed a little before that. It worked.
