Could it be a hotflash?
Hi all!
I have a question for those of you that are menopausal or post menopausal.
Lately (the last month or two) I will be going along, minding my own business and out of no where, I am so hot I feel like I could throw up. Its like if I don't get my clothes off soon, or some cool air I might pass out.
My mom started menopause when she was 42 - I just turned 33 in November. I have my tubes tied (don't know if that could contribute?)
We do heat with a wood burning stove and sometimes it heats up fairly quick, but no one else in the house seems to be having the trouble I am....
Just wondering if these episodes could be hot flashes?
Thanks!~Jessica

Could be that or any number of things like low blood sugar. Have a check up lately?

I know nothing about hot flashes so I am not sure if that is what you are experiencing.
I do know that when my sugar/glucose levels are not right I get that exact same feeling. I have to stick my head in front of a fan or in the freezer. I break out in a sweat and I feel like I could throw up everywhere, and sometimes do. It comes on all of the sudden and without warning. My younger cousin (she is 28) was having similar episodes and her doc said she was hypoglycemic (low blood sugar).
May be worth checking with your doc if it doesn't stop or becomes more frequent.DD (19)

Hmmm... I am experiencing these same symptoms. I was just assuming it was hot flashes. I have planned to have a check up soon. I think you should, also.

Of course I don't want to attempt a diagnosis, as I am certainly no doctor, but I will share what I am doing and it's working for my personal heat waves.
Black Cohosh. Wonderful stuff. No taste, no side effects, natural, no hormones. Get it in the vitamin section.
I have been researching this for a while and can highly recommend two books.
Ann Louis Gittleman PHD "Before the Change"
Dr Christian Northup "The Wisdom of Menopause"
The first one is much shorter, a pretty quick read, and gets to the point.
Welcome to the second phase of being a woman. It gets better from here.
And BTW, mine would get worse when I was stressed but I haven't had any since two days after I started taking the Black Cohosh.Last edited by Grandma Lewis; 01-04-2008 at 03:41 PM.

I know you said your tubes are tied, but is there a chance you could be pregnant? Stranger things have happened. Best Wishes with whatever it may be and I hope you feel better!

I think the age is a little young to start but yes some people do go through it early. Best to go see your doctor.

Jamauk - Im about the same age as you and I have had the sudden hot flashes as well as sweats. However I have diabetes and thats how I feel when my blood sugar levels get TOO HIGH. Everyone else has seemed to said thats how they feel when its low. Im the opposite, hot when its high and cold when its low. It could be your thyroid? Id seek professional medical advice to be sure and whatever you do - dress in layers, drink plenty of water and stay near an open window!

I am in early meno. I am 37. I would get it checked out by the doc. Early meno is bad for your bones.
The doc put me on BC pills for the early meno.Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

Thanks everyone for your input!
Now that you guys have mentioned it, thinking back it really could be related to blood sugar. It usually happens in the morning (after I've had coffee, but before I've really eaten anything) or when I've been going going going all day long and not taken the time to eat a good meal.
When I was in college the doc told me I have hypoglycemic tendancies - and I've been eating very very poorly lately.
I'm going to really concentrate on getting back into a good eating routine and monitor things for about a week or so and then I'll re-evaluate and possibly call my doc.
Thanks everyone for your wisdom!!~Jessica
