I need reassurance....
I have been struggling with my weight for 3 years. I was down in reach of my goal with only 15 pounds to go.
One of my new year's resolutions was to save more money...so, I up and decided to quit smoking, and I am doing fantastic. 11 days with no smoking, and I have no desire to start again.
However, I am watching my food intake and exercising like normal. I am doing nothing differently...no snacks, no sugary gum, no extra eating and the same exercise and I am still watching the scale climb.
I have gained a total of 5 pounds, which puts me 20 pounds from my goal. I know I am doing the right thing, because in the long run, this is healthier and I can lose the weight later. But it is just so frustrating, because it doesn't seem like there is anything I can do about it!
I need some reassurance from those of you out there who have been through this! Anyone gain weight when they quit and were able to lose it again later? And if so, how long did it take to stop gaining weight after you quit?
Thanks everyone!

Momto2boyz, just wanted to give you a big
b/c I know where you are at. Today is my 1st day on quitting smoking and I have the same concerns about putting on weight. I quit early last year for about 4 mths and gained about 10 lbs. I ended up starting back and never losing the weight.
I can't really give you any advice, hope someone up here can.
Just wanted you to know that you have support here

Congratulations on quitting. I went through the same thing about 4 years ago. After I quit I put on about 10 lbs in about 2 months. After about a year the weight just seemed to come off. Although I would still like to drop another 5lbs. I think the weight gain is normal when you quit. Once your body adjusts to the change this problem should go away.I think the health benefits of quitting smoking outweigh gaining a few pounds anyway. Anyways, good luck and hang in there.

Congrats on quitting! PM if you need a buddy to chat with! I tried to find an online forum for people who have quit smoking, and couldn't find a decent one! I would have loved someone to gripe too, especially those first couple days when everything got on my nerves! So if you feel that way...feel free to PM me to gripe! I'd be happy to help, because I was just there myself! Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll make it!
I'm glad to hear you both say you gained about 10 pounds. I'm ok with gaining 10 pounds. It's 20-30 pounds that I am afraid of gaining. I guess I just need to get more active and maybe that will help. On the plus side...I feel FANTASTIC, and have tons of energy!

Sarah, Gripey (my dh who b.t.w. chose his own handle...lol) quit smoking 3 years ago Valentine's Day. He gained a fair amount of weight BUT he has since lost that plus about 45 more. One thing at a time and you might find it helpful to keep a food log as you go along whether or not you are 'dieting'. You could call it your quit smoking journal and track your moods and food intake and struggles and little victories daily. You might find it helpful in all areas.
on the quitting smoking! You GO girl! (I know you smell so much better
and you will feel soooooooo much better) Hang in there. You can so do this, all of this

I've read somewhere that this is due to your body adjusting to the new intake-regime (meaning: no nicotine). There is something in the cigarette that speeds up bowel movement and when you no longer smoke, your body has to do it by itself. It takes some time for your body to realize this.
Good luck and hold on!

Thats waht i heard too about the chemiclas still coming out of your body. If you like trying new things try cleansing it out with lots of green teas, fruit shakes and lots of bran drinking water besides to get rid of the nicotine sooner.
Your body takes times to tell the brain you dont need it anymore and want the chemicals thats still in your system.
I know when my oldest son was ADHD meds i put him on a Omega clean uup/ out with UDO's of oil and afetr 2 weeks he was like anew kid and since I couldnt take him off the meds. cold turkey but slowly for 2 weeks then the clean out, he was a new kid.
My hubby it took him over many years and at least 4times to finally quit. But out of boredom he put the weight on and he's a sweet fanatic lol
Now he waould never go back, cant stand the smell and taste of them.
Congrats on quitting , I know it's hard to do.

I have read this too, and have heard that toxic cleansing helps both speed the chemical adjustment and helps speed your digestion process up so that you do not hang onto extra weight. I might try something fairly gentle like Citrucel if I were going to do anything to move things along, but otherwise would probably just add lemon juice to my water and drink more green tea.
