Just curious to see if there is anyone else?
I am just curious to see who else gets adverse effects from caffeine other than myself? whether you drink it or eat it.
Adverse Effects would be things like:
general toxicity (e.g., muscle tremors, nausea, irritability);
cardiovascular effects (e.g., heart rate, cholesterol, blood pressure);
effects on calcium balance and bone health (e.g., bone density, risk of fractures);
behavioural effects in both adults and children (e.g., anxiety, mood changes, attentiveness);
I know I do but that could possibly have a lot to do with my Hypothyroidism.Last edited by Precious26; 01-31-2008 at 03:41 PM.

I haven't been aware of any. However, as I've aged, I find I am much more sensitive to it's "alertness" effect. If I have any after 5 or 6 p.m, I'll probably see the sun come up -- without benefit of a night's sleep!

My mother read some womans book and she talks about how bad coffee is for you. So she has given it up. As for me, I will die before I give up coffee. I couldn't care less what some woman says about my beloved sweet sweet coffee.
I do notice I get tremors in my hands if I drink more then a pot a day! LOL

As I age my body doesn't tolerate caffeine like it used to. I drink alot less of it now than I did a few years ago. It makes me pee alot and makes my breasts hurt. The newest thing is if I have coffee after about 10-11am, I get a migraine. Weird, I know.

My hands shake if I have more than 2 cups a day and I'm more on edge. If I have one cup regular in the morning it helps wake me up and focus me. If I still need more in the afternoon I mix half cup regular with a half cup decaf. That's my limit though!

I usually only drink 1 mug a day, sometimes 2 if I'm slow and groggy in the morning. But unlike some others, caffeine relieves my headaches and migraines, rather than causes them. Still, I rarely have any caffeine after lunch, just because I crave my sleep! Other than that, I have no adverse effects.
About the breast lumps: I had those years ago and my doctor advised me to lay off caffeine. I did completely and they went away. So I think there is definitely a connection.Spiritual:

I limit my coffee drinking to the morning and early afternoon. I have about 10-12 ounces at most and have stopped drinking caffienated soda if I've had a coffee.
If I do stop "the habit" I do get a headache. I've only had my heart racing once from too much caffeine and it was scary.The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

Too much caffeine just starts to make me feel off balance.
But here's an interesting effect I had not seen before: it causes me boyfriend to break out! How he survives grad student life without caffeine none of us can understand.

I have two small cups of coffee a day - but not after 6:00 p.m. otherwise I'm wired all night.

I cannot have caffeine in the evening. Even the small amount will keep me up.
I do drink one cup of coffee in the morning, to help with my migraines. It keeps them away. My nerologist told me that caffeine can be a trigger for some people and help others, but that too much caffeine is usually a migraine trigger. I know that there can be ill effect of caffeine consumption, so like most things I practice moderation.Julie

If I drink more than two cups in a row my hands will shake big time and I also feel extremely anxious.

I quit drinking coffee on May 28th last year. I know the exact date because the last cup I had came from Robin's Donuts at the hospital. DH got it for me while I was waiting to have a broken foot looked at. I waited so long to get into see the doctor (2-3 hours) that I needed something to keep me awake. So I had coffee. I went through a real high, and then, by the time I got to the doctor I was real crabby and behaved inexcusably in my mind. Course others have said he behaved inexcusably for keeping me waiting that long. But the mood swing was really noticeable. I decided that was the end of caffeine...especially coffee. I just quit chocolate this January though. So I am totally caffeine free, and feeling a lot better for it!

When it comes to caffeine from chocolate or soda pop, nope, no problems. But caffeine from coffee just about kills me -- turns my stomach into a perfect eight-figure knot. The pain just about kills me. Then I get the shakes and am majorly hyper. I figure since caffeine is a drug, that must be my reaction to it.
So, as you can imagine, I stick to water.
