Vitamin Therapy...
for schizophrenia and other mental disorders (bipolar, schizo-affective, etc.). Anyone ever heard of this? What do you know? Where can I go for more information? Does it really work?
Thanks.

Hi Jean,
I can direct you to a very good interview done by Mike Adams with Dr. Gabriel Cousens.

Thanks. Interesting. I had checked out "Masks of Madness" from the library and unearthed some stuff by Dr. Abram Hoffer and others. I came upon the entire field of orthomolecular medicine, which my doctor sister claims doesn't make any sense (the name of it).
But I've cut sugar and dairy out of my diet, and increased vitamin C, switched to pure forms of vitamins and minerals and have had quite an improvement in my condition. I'm just wondering how far I can go before I'm going to need a doctor who knows what they're doing to oversee the process.

I don't think healthy lifestyle changes hurt anyone. But the kind of vitamin therapy that the orthomolecular people are talking about involves mega doses -- and you do need someone who knows what they are doing when you get into the high dosages they are talking about.
If you haven't already you might want to check out Margot Kidder's website (the actress) -- she has personal experience with this and has become an activist on mental health issues.

DH said I didn't say this strongly enough in my last post so here goes ... again. You really need lab tests to determine blood levels when you get into the megadoses of vitamins. At the dosages we are talking about in orthomolecular medicine they can be toxic therefore quite dangerous. So yes, obviously you do need to get a doctor involved.
But I didn't say that to try to scare you away from orthomolecular medicine. Just do careful research and look for a professional to help you with it.

Thanks everyone. Lots to think on and pursue. I'm scouting around locally through friends to see if there's a doctor who can oversee this in my area.
