Alternative Menstrual Product - Review *TMI*
I can't remember the thread where Sea Sponges were mentioned. But I thought about it, and decided to order some. I looked at it this way, the $10 was less than what I spend on products per period anyway.
They arrived just 2 days before "Aunt Flo" arrived.
The first day was very easy, took a little getting used to position it where it was right for me. Kept a cloth pad, *just incase*. There was a little spotting, fixed that with rinsing it more frequently.
The night was a real challenge,(TMI HERE). My first 12 hours would be considered average to heavy by most people, the 13 to 48 hour is essentially hemmorraging(sp?), I think the medical term is "flooding". So the night is very hard. But, I decided can't be worse than everything else. I did use the heavier sponge, and a huge night pad. Had to get up twice because everything was saturated. Which is better than usual, as that is the alarm set every 2 hours and that is sometimes not enough.
The next day was still a heavy time, but doinga rinse every hour maintained things with no more seepage!*yay!*.
Then the next stage for me, a day of spotting/stopping, with the light sponge I"m able to use it, I just leave it slightly damp for insertion, and it covers the spotting!
then I'll have another 3 or 4 days of light-mod flow.
I have to say, I'm VERY pleased! Hoping this natural product will help ease my periods, I've heard for many people natural, none bleached, products can ease things up. Either way, I'm not ending my period with a yeast infection follow up due to irritation from the paper products! I can handle a couple pads for the nights that are heavy, sure beats 2 packages!!! Cloth pads just don't cut it for the super heavy days, even when home.
Sorry for the full info. I KNOW my period isn't nice. I'm trying to convince the Dr that there's issues, but HE isn't overly helpful. He just goes...yes, it's "inconvenient". HUH? The other Dr was blaming it all on being hypothyroid. No one will listen that it started after a misscarriage.
But we'll get this under control yet.

Very interesting. I'm still not very adventurous when it comes to those products, but I'm happy that it worked for you!

On this I really think you should get a second opinion. I just had a hysterectomy and it sounds as if you have fibroids to me. I, however, am not a doc but periods like that are usually a sign of something.Sorry for the full info. I KNOW my period isn't nice. I'm trying to convince the Dr that there's issues, but HE isn't overly helpful. He just goes...yes, it's "inconvenient". HUH? The other Dr was blaming it all on being hypothyroid.
