Hmm, I don't usually bump posts, but I'm surprised no one responded to this. Maybe you could try asking this question under the section about health, or lifestyle (which I think has a weight loss/exercise category)?
Pill that suppress appetite usually make me jittery. But I've seen the Alli commercials & ads, and I've been wondering.... probably too good to be true, though.

Alli has some wacky side effects. I would really read up before making the decision. It wouldn't hurt to discuss it with a doctor as well.
As to other over the counter diet pills, I am very leery of them. I guess for the short term maybe, but.....

I can't take anything w a stimulant(I get jittery to),but I know from others who have used hydroxycut. You get it at GNC...it's used by weight lifters(and no you don't have to be a mass weight lifter or anything)-they use it when they are toning off the fat after they have been gaining weight to gain muscle(believe it or not but weight lifters eat everything and don't watch their weight when they are trying to gain muscle-they do what is called cutting where they diet later to lose the fat they gained along w their muscle....because if they are weight lifting and trying to diet they aren't usually getting the necessary nutrients they need to gain muscle-it defeats the purpose). They also have other things at GNC specifically for women...talk to a few of their reps. They will tell you what they have heard or seen about most products.
You do need to do an exercise regime w this-cardio(walking,aerobics,swimming-anything that brings your heart rate up) def and some light weightlifting for toning would help too.
If you are trying to lose alot of weight or have health issues-you need to talk to four family doctor first though.
To lose weight I have to do it the old fashioned way which is watching what I eat and getting enough exercise....which is actually better in the long run.

Those things make me jittery too, and I'd definitely avoid the Alli....not only is it costly, but you've got to add in the extra cost of the adult Depends. No thanks!

I haven't tried many but the ones I have tried do not work. I think a good multi vitaman will do some what the same thing.

I tried Alli and it only gives you the runs if you eat poorly. In fact the entire time I took Alli I never once got the runs. But it doesn't do anything for appetite suppression or energy. I didn't lose weight any faster with it.
As far as needing energy and being hungry. With any proper diet you shouldn't be hungry. I pretty much eat all day and I am now losing more weight in a week then I have with any other diet. The trick is to keep lots of zero calorie things on hand.
Celery, cucumbers and carrots can all be sliced and used to dip into salsa. To bulk up your salsa mix it with some fat free sour cream. Try miso soup and drink a cup of it before you eat any meal. It will help you eat less.
I bulk up my plate with my veggies. Try steaming some green beams and sprinkle them with light soy sauce and some garlic powder. I can eat an entire plate full of green beans this way and then I am stuffed for very little calories.
Also for me I have more energy if I eat my biggest meal at lunch time. That way I have a lot in my tummy to get me threw the day. Try 6 meals a day instead of three.
MY typical day looks like this
breakfast 7am oatmeal
snacks 10am fruit smoothie
lunch 12pm sandwich, salad and fruit
snack 3pm big plate of raw veggies with salsa or hummus
dinner 6pm a protein meal with two veggies
and if I want a dessert fruit or a low calorie treat.
Also stay a way from things with artificial sweeteners , they will actually make you hungry
.
I hope something I said helps.

I wanted to add that a multi-vitamin will help and lot but never take it on an empty stomach it will rush your body and make you feel sick.
Diet soda is the enemy, the sodium with make you retain water and the aspartame will make you want more sweets. Not to mention all the other horrible things aspartame can do to you.

I just thought of something I did like, Women's One-A-Day Vitamins has an appetite suppressant version, it is simply green tea added to the vitamin.
It did help suppress my appetite a little bit, but won't work for that if you take it every day. It also didn't make me jittery until the 3rd or 4th day. I'd like to buy more of these to take maybe 2 or 3 times a week, in between my regular vitamins.
I've heard that green tea is a natural appetite suppressant, and also has lots of antioxidants. But I think it tastes like grass

As for the OP. Nope, I don't use them. They are a waste of money. If diet pills worked, no one would be overweight

I agree w/ Ann 2000%. I am never hungry and I eat all day long. Three small meals and two to three small snacks. You can see exactly what I eat on my sparkpage (in my signature).

I thought this was a pretty good article about the effects of taking diet pills. It's a research study by Texas Med Assoc

My best luck dieting has been the reverse diet - where you eat the largest meal of the day within 30 minutes of getting up and then sort of wind your way down to something pretty trivial in the evening an nothing for the last 2 hours before you go to bed. This seems to kickstart your body in the mornig, feeds it all day until it is time to wind down, and I slept better when I had not eaten too much too late also. My experience with diet pills was pretty horrible, and I don't usually react strongly to any meds. They wired me and made me very emotional and physically shaky - not the desired effect!

I took Hydroxycut a few years ago. I have also tried Xyience. Hydroxycut worked better. Xyience didn't do anything for me. Note that this was over a very short term when I was looking to kick-start pre-season weight loss so I could race at a lighter weight. These are not meant to be taken long term (in my opinion) and I paired mine with both aerobic and strength training so I could get to my race weight quicker.
Overall, I would say unless you are already in very good physical shape, I cannot recommend diet pills. I have taken them, but I have also raced Ironman triathlons where I have exercised for over 15 hours straight, so I consider my heart/cardio system to be strong enough to take a little extra stress for a short period of time.
They are not a long term fix. I would start with a good diet where you eat 5-6 times a day so you're not hungry, paired with aerobic activity and weight training. Your new diet/exercise program should increase your energy naturally.
