    Default Lurker needing advice...

    Just a warning...this isn't pretty.

I have a room-mate that is an illegal immigrant. Therefore, has no health insurance and is only a cook at a local restaurant, so there isn't any money. Anyways, He's been REALLY sick for about a month now, and was diagnosed with pnemonia, but that's since been taking care of. He's still trying to figure out how he's gonna pay that bill. Although he's now rid of the pnemonia, he's still very sick, coughing up blood and a bunch of other symptoms that I researched online and sounds identical to Cirrhosis of the Liver. Anyways, what I'm getting to, is should I tell him that his symptoms match that of Cirrhosis? There's really nothing he could do about it. He can't afford the treatments, has two children that he sends money to in Mexico, and just found out that his girlfriend of 2 months is pregnant here. So, should I tell him that he probably has something that not only can he afford treatments for, but that even if he could he'd die anyways due to a liver transplant being that only 'cure'? Or should I just let him be and either figure it out on his own, or die at peace and happy with his family? I know that this makes me sound like a horrible person, but for as sick as he is (with or without cirrhosis) there's still no way of him affording any treatments. So should I tell him that his symptoms match or just let him be and mind my own business?

Well Chickie, if it's TB things may not fare so well for you either, as well as everyone at the eatery, the store, the gas station........I'd go to the ER with him ASAP.You are lucky I don't know where you are. I'd report it.

No point saying it is one thing to find out it's another...unless you have valid credentials...ie...MD. Sounds to me an ER trip is in order. What ever happens after that happens.

If he is cooking at a resturant he needs to see a doctor as soon as possible. Sounds serious.

I agree that if you don't have a medical degree you can not make a diagnosis like that to him!

Lots of things can cause teh coughing up of blood. TB came to my mind first as well and if that is the case.... You have been exposed as well as everyone who has had contact with him...not to mention his girlfriend and unborn child.

He needs to be diagnosed by a physician and then things can be decided.

He needs to see a Dr immediately. What if he does have TB? That's very serious and puts many people, including you, in jeopardy. If he gets deported (which he should since he's here illegally) at least he'll be back with his children and they need a father.

Coughing up blood is NEVER a good thing. I don't know what it is, but that much I do know. Get him to the hospital or clinic. Prayers going out for him.
