Hoo, boy! DH has to use something for sweetening with his diabetes and this is what we've been using. Yikes. Well, we HAVE been using less overall. I don't use any.

DH was reading some of the Drs. Roizen and Oz recommendation and tehy recommended a little maple syrup or honey even for diabetics rather than the artificial sweeteners. But when dh put a drizzle of syrup on his whole wheat pancakes----his blood sugar was 240. Not what we were hoping for.

Sigh. I don't know what to do anymore............

We use it in our tea and coffee. I'm not worried. I think if you did a chemical analysis of everything we consume we'd be scared to death to put anything in our mouths. Just look at the report released last week about the quality of our drinking water. It had traces of hormones, antibiotics, mood enhancers, etc.

Ditto. I have insulin resistance and I'll take my chances w/ Splenda over long term sugar use.

    Hi Cab,
The one recommendation I make to all of my clients is to use Raw Agave nectar. It is very low on the glycemic index and if you decide to try it, will be pleasantly surprised at his blood sugar results. It is a little pricey, but a little goes a long way's and you will also have peace of mind just knowing that your dh is not being harmed.

I don't use it. I tried it, and can't stand the taste of it. The commercials say it tastes like sugar, but wow, i couldn't get past the bitter ick taste.

We all have to make personal choices in life. But now at least you ladies have this information and if any of you notice any of the symptoms described here, you will know what they are possibly a result of splenda consumption. Take care, Lynn

Personally, I think Splends tatstes awful. I also think it is unsafe in large amounts. But, to each their own, of course. Here is something I feel fine about ingesting and it tastes GOOD. I found it in the organic section of Kroger.

The only time I ever used it was because it was the sweetner in a protein shake mix I used about 5 years ago. The taste was a little different. Anyhow, it gave me severe intestine cramping and so I did my research on splenda and that is the very last time I ever used it. I had the same thing happen to me back in 1984 with the use of aspartame. I ended up in the hospital for 5 day's with excruciating intestine cramps.

Splenda raises my glucose levels just about as fast as sugar. I don't use it or any of the others for the same reason. My doctor is telling his diabetic patients to keep a close eye on their levels with Splenda as well.

Just wanted to mention that Splenda is a corn product for those who are sensitive or allergic to corn products. I found out the hard way :-(
