It's Not My Fault I'm Sick!
"It's not my fault if I have a stroke."
"Diabetes runs in the family."
"Cancer runs in my family, so it's certainly not my fault."
Haven't we heard this by Baby Boomers and our older friends?

How about"You're gonna die anyway", as they puff cigarettes, gorge on junk food and refuse to exercise?Everone has to go, but if I have a choice, let it be peacefully in my sleep, at a ripe old age, still active and busy. Not gasping for breath, plugged to a machine, obese.

Having worked with the elderly and found that even those who maintained themselves in a pristine manner (several vegetarians and vegans in that group and all exercised daily) still suffered a myriad of illnesses, I find the tone of this really offensive.

Wooo-Hoooo not me! I wanna go doing something that is exciting and dangerous! If I have a stroke - it's because I was being shot at by a jealous younger wife! (just a joke - not infidelity intentions!) If I have a heart attack it's because the marathon I just ran really was tooo much for an 80 year old! I feel that I could be more active now and I have a health issue holding me back now - but nothing that won't clear up in 8 more months!
I used to be one of those people that smoked, drank and ate junk - saying I should go out in style. But nah... I don't want to be a statistic. Life is to good not to enjoy!

No offense meant, sorry it was taken.Opinion still the same.Sometimes, genetics can over ride even the best efforts to maintain health. Which makes lifestyle choice even more important- In my own opinion.

First I want to say that it is in no way my intention to ever offend anyone with an article like this. I care about each and every one of you here. And I would never dream of judging anyone for the lifestyle that they choose to live. Myself, I am basically a raw foodist and that is a choice that I made in order to help me with the depression that I suffered with for years and to live the best day everyday of my life! It just makes me feel so good and it is the lifestyle that I choose to live.
Second, I just lost my best friend who was like a big sister to me and her autopsy report indicated that she died from a massive heart attack due to coronary artery disease. I had watched her health fail over the last several years and I tried to educate her on a healthy lifestyle, but she made that choice to eat all of the wrong foods and not exercise. She made that choice to run to different Dr's for her ailments. She was alway's looking for that "quick fix" . It was very painful to watch her health fail. This has made me all the more determined to take care of myself. It enables me to do all of the physical things that my heart desires and then some.
None of us know what the future holds for us but if I can do anything to prevent degeneration of my health.......by golly.... I am worth it!
HUGZ,
Lynn

Adelle Davis died of cancer. Jim Fixx died while running.
My Momma certainly didn't choose to have severe degenerative disc disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, atrial fibrillation nor any of her other health problems.
That's all I'm gonna say about that.

CountryBumpkin, am I understanding you right? Raw food helps with depression? I ask because I have been treated for depression most of my adult life and I would love to be able to get off the meds.
On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.
On 01-13-89 I gave birth to the love of my life.

Yes, I have the same question as Megareader, and ALSO wondering how long you have been a raw foodist, CB? Your posts are interesting.

I wanted to say that although I'm not finding this offensive exactly, my Mom was 69 when she had a heart attack and bypass surgery. She did eat fairly healthy (her favorite saying is everything in moderation) and walks or bikes everywhere, mall-walking when the weather gets too cold. She wasn't an ounce overweight, and was the picture of health pre-MI.
Now she is 72 and recovered, still walks and rides her bike, and eats moderately. I would say 'with common sense.'
Also my step sister's mother died of cancer. Then step-sister got breast cancer, then HER daughter got breast cancer at AGE 28. Then the stepsister's SON got cancer at age 28 also. Everyone is in remission, and OK for now. But HOW would two 28 yr old siblings have lived long enough, and eaten badly enough to get cancer so young? They are thin, eat healthy, and are active.
But I am open minded enough, that I am interested in diet's relationship to health. The correlation interests me, but often I am astounded what a crap-shoot it really is.

Hi ladies,
Yes, raw food can cure depression! Given a chance it can cure a lot of things. I started out as 100% raw last October 1st. I am now between 100-80 raw. I belong to a very supportive online raw food forum and I also am active in a local raw food support group that meets once every month for a raw food potluck/support. There are many wonderful books that you can purchase to learn more about this lifestyle. Two that I suggest are 12 Steps To Raw Food/How To End Your Dependency On Cooked Food By Victoria Boutenko And The Live Food Factor By Susan Schenck
Hope this helps!

Hi Cab,
I am happy that your dear mom has recovered and is doing well. Do you mind if I ask you what her eating habits are like and is she taking any quality supplements to help her endothelium/overall health? Also, good for her for exercising! That is excellent!
My 21 year old daughter was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, stage 3b, 5 years ago. She is cured and doing very well. Her diet before her diagnosis was not a good thing . She was living on her own......going to school and working and not doing her body any favors! She is very well informed on the relationship of food and cellular health now and she eats about 75% raw now and takes good quality wholefood supplements and continues to jump on her rebounder on a daily basis. She just delivered her third child 3 weeks ago! The dr's said she would never conceive......due to 6 months of chemo! But I had one month to work with her prior to starting her chemo and alot of the things the Dr's told her never happened!
I can start posting more articles on nutrition and cellular health here.
Also, for anyone who has a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer.....the one man who helped us a lot is Bill Henderson. His website is www.beating-cancer-gently.com
Hugs, Lynn

Well, congratulations, Grandma!
I'm so glad your daughter has recovered so well.
What does my mother eat...hmmm...well, I don't exactly watch everything she puts in her mouth, but I do know that she always watched her fat intake and is much more careful now, post MI. She has always eaten probably half of her diet as fresh fruits and vegetables, although she does cook some vegetables. She eats less red meat than anyone I know, although occasionally. My stepfather (who's diabetic and in denial) does the cooking every other day and is more careless what he cooks. Very nice guy, but not into healthy eating, LOL! She eats fish at LEAST once a week.
Not your diet, but better than the average American, I'm sure.
