    Hi,

I did it the slow, steady and cheap way!

Ate or drank 5 healthy things before I would eat anything less healthy - granary toast for breakfast, couple of glasses of water, banana after exercising and salad on my sandwich for lunch. Then any choices I made were a free choice - the further I got into it the healthier my "treat" choice became, my sweet tooth has lessened and now I know about nutrition I can make delicious choices with the benefit of them being good for me!

Did some exercise everyday. Swept the floor rather than vaccing, walk rather than take the car, carry as basket rather than use a shopping trolley etc. Made sure I walked up and down the stair at home frequently. Marched on the spot, stretched or did some press ups during ad breaks. Did an exercise dvd a couple of time a week etc.

Just all the small stuff like that. I didn't count calories, go to a slimming club or even weigh myself. Just did it and felt better! Because I had my rule about having 5 healthy things before anything unhealthy I didn't feel like I was depriving myself - I could have a "treat" whenever I wanted as long as I had done the other stuff first. Not keeping a strict diary of all my calories and activity helped me as I didn't feel like I was thinking about my weightlo all the time. I think ometimes we can fixate on thing and I don't think it always leads to succes. I just joined the threads here and jumped in when I felt like I had something to report.

FWIW I lost over 40lb and next month is the 2nd anniversary of getting to my goal (which wa to fit into a certain pair of jeans UK size 10, US size 6). I have maintained ever since doing exactly the same thing so it can work!

Good luck and stick around here so we can share tips and dish out motivation

(apologies for any typos my "s" isn't working properly!)

For me, I think the biggest difference came from:
    -eating breakfast every day
-drinking 6-8 glasses of water or crystal light type beverage every day
    -eating more fruits & veggies
-eating more fiber (whole grains, brown rice, etc)
-keeping my calories in the range set up by spam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! -working out at least 30 minutes/day 4-6x/week.

3 yrs ago my husband and I both lost 45lbs each. At first we just started watching what we were eating. Smaller portions, more salads, heathier snacks, etc. Then we started walking daily. 3miles a day. I would buy low fat foods (very expensive I know) but it was so easy too lose the weight with the store purchased low fat foods.

Then we moved to NJ. The store I started shopping at really don't have alot of the lower fat foods that the store in NY did (FF cheese and FF breads) plus life got more busier and we started to slake.
Long story short, we both have gained 10 pounds back .It took us 3 yrs to do it and We are still within our
BMI but I feel alittle flabby. We have gotten back to our "Life Change" of better eating.

I don't buy the Low Fat foods that I did in NY but instead I have been making my own foods.
I make my own granola, soy nuts, sugar free Jello and pudding. I eat yogurt and make my own fruit roll ups. I love rice cakes but I don't know how to make those yet (if anyone know a good recipe, let me know)
I have sarted walking my 3 miles everyday and started back up with my pilates again.

I love junk food and I have to have self control plus I try not to buy to much junk for my son.

Losing weight is a "Life Style Change" for the better. Sometimes you may fall of the wagon but just dust your self off and get back on.

I love to be thin. I love to shop for clothes. When I was heavy I never shopped because I didn't like to see myself in the store mirrors.

You have to set you mind to it and set a day and start and don't look back. Don't get discouraged if you stumble, everyone does. Just keep the goal in mind. Take small steps too. My goal was to lose 10 lbs at a time (not 45lbs) 45lbs sounds like alot but 10 lbs doesn't.

    Have fun and good luck.

Here's a lengthy answer that I typed out at our sister site.

Also links to our before and after pics...I've lost more since the after pics were posted (about 10 or 12 more pounds).

Thanks . I haven't been to Weightloss Moms in a while, except to copy that link. But there's some good stuff there.

Well I'm in my 3rd week of my journey. I'm gaining muscle so my weight has gone up a little but I can tell I'm losing inches. I am trying not to eat out too much and trying to stay away from sodas. I am doing a workout dvd called Slim in 6. I've only been sticking to the 25 minute learning routine but it shows results! I don't think I'll be moving away from it any time soon. I'm not dieting or buying special foods but I am trying to listen to my body signals. I try to stop when I feel satisfied. Before I would just eat and eat until I felt the need to explode. So far this is all I'm doing.

We all struggle with this issue (well, most of us anyway.) I've been trying to come up with a few quick and very healthy things to eat that are very satisfying. One that I've come up with that I love and can eat daily is home made guacamole with corn chips. I only allow myself a few corn chips, and I pile on the guacamole. You just puree in a food processor a few cloves of garlic, a fresh lime squeezed and an avocado. It's delicious, filling and super healthy. I also find that having hard boiled eggs on hand is great because they are very filling and full of protein. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that for me it is the little things. I work out daily, but sometimes it's just ten min on the treadmill or jogging in place for five min while I'm waiting for the school bus to pull up. These things make other daily activities easier to accomplish. Best of luck to you!!

Thanks everyone, these are several tips that I could ACTUALLY use. My biggest problem right now is trying to slim down my mid section, I had to have 2 c-sections, and I know that it will take a little longer, but if I can get on the right track I think it might be easier to stick to a good plan. So we'll see, I'll let you know when I decide to start and what my progress is!!
