    Default Severe Itching

I have a problem with ithcing that starts in one area and I'll scratch like crazy and my skin gets lobster red. I"ll stop and the itching will continue in the same spot. Then an area near the ithy spot starts itching. Eventually pretty much my whole body will itch. Sometimes even my scalp! The itching is almost always in the evening and as weird as it seems to start when i change clothing and the areas that exposed to air start itching. Anyone have similiar problem if so what do you use to stop the itching?
    Thanks
    Kim

It comes and goes for me, and I can't say I've noticed anything about exposure to air, but YES I experience this. Don't know what else to do about it, I already use lotion and sensitive skin soap.

It's been a lot worse recently, and definitely worse here in PA than in OR.

I don't know why but I have the same problem. I do have dry skin and I usually put lotion on after my shower. I am not itchy throughout the day but come nighttime I cannot seem to stop the itching (mostly my legs but other spots too). I thought maybe it was because I was tired, I also noticed mine is much worse when I am pregnant. I use Eucerin calming creme and that does help (although it would not be so good for the scalp itching) and I can't get it on my back. Sorry I do not have any advice, just thought I would let you know that you are not alone in your misery.

Could it be a chemical sensitivity to something in your laundry soap? (Have you switched brands lately?) Also there are a host of health issues that can cause itching (itching is also medically considered a form of pain---or so my dr. told me once when I was having a similar problem).

check the obvious stuff, hair products, perfumes, makeups, detergents, soaps, etc.

if it only happens in the evening, are you getting a lot of Niacin in your diet around the evening? (it can cause itching all over)

any meds/vitamins otherwise yer on recently?

otherwise, sometimes a shower can help.
use baby powder or corn starch - mix with a little water, make a paste and put it on the itchy area. (corn starch is better than baby powder, but not everyone has corn starch, so baby powder will do just fine.)

Note: baby powder should be fragrance free if you use it! (it can make it worse otherwise.)

There are some lotions out there you can try for severely itchy skin.

sometimes licking the area (like your hand) can help (natural enzymes in your saliva can stop itching)

    good luck!

I say if it keeps happening and you dont know what it is... go to a Dr.

My hubby gets this at times on his legs.....we have tried lots of idea's, the one that seems to work for him is:

AVEENO, (it is expensive but seems to work very well, check for coupons).
