I will definitely join you in this. I have about 20 lbs to lose and would love to have it gone by summer. A pound a week is definitely a doable goal.

I am going to start on the 5th also but I have started exercising already. I am getting a bunch of recipes together and doing some serious meal planning so I will actually stick with this. I'm going to follow the weight watchers point system since I have had success with it in the past. Can't wait to hear about everyone's progress! WE CAN DO IT!!!

I'm in on this one. I have about 15 pounds to lose.

FDH is trying to lose weight too, he has about 30 pounds to shift. So for every pound I lose, he hopes to lose two. It'll be nice for us to work together on this.

I'll weigh in on Sundays, first weigh-in 4th January.

valerian i see you've been quoted several times and i would like to add to that. i've always been the little skinny girl but have put on 40lbs in the past 5-6yrs. i feel horribly fat and i don't feel good physically or mentally because of it. i actually pretty much have been staying inside and never going anywhere but work because of it. people don't take me seriously when i talk about weight loss. it's disheartening at times. i've told a couple of people at work (including my coworkers) so i have an established reason to refuse eating treats when offered. a couple of people including an officemate have said oh we can do it together..... in the past year i've found depending on other people just lets me down. so oblivious to whatever they are doing, i am working my own program (no fad diets) just doing the best i can do each day, planning things to eat and forcing myself to exercise until i can get to that golden point that it feels like a choice. and that is my first golden word "choose". i will choose what i eat today. i will choose to step on the treadmill today.
day one - i got my base weight this morning as soon as i got up. good luck to me, good luck to us all.

    Valerian and Jacqueline,

I sympathize. I am tall, so I carry my weight distributed a bit more than some. I can hide extra weight with clothing and such. I get the same response when I mention losing weight, but I also get a lot more compliments when the weight is not there.

Same as you, I know what makes me feel good and what doesn't, and my self-esteem and confidence gets a boost when I am not having to suck anything in to get dressed!

Okay, first weigh-in for me. I was 155.6. If I look at my weight rationally, I look very good at about 136, so I am going to shoot for 20 pounds total. I'll be recording more of my daily progress and actual body measurements in my blog (Fat Hen to P.H.A.T. Chick), but will record my weekly weigh-in, at the minimum, here.

    GOOD LUCK ALL!!!

I don't own a scale so I won't weigh myself until I go the Doctor's at the end of January, unless I break down and buy one

The party we went to last night was really difficult ~ there was *very* little that I could eat so I ended up eating a couple of things that I shouldn't to be polite. Today I will pay for it. I've already done some time on the treadmill and will do it two more times. My sugar was above where it should have been last night, too. UGH! This morning it was fine though.

I need to start strategizing about what to do in a situation like this again. All I heard all night long was "Go ahead, it's New Year's Eve".

My first step out the gate this morning was to drink a glass of water right after I got out of bed. Then, for my morning mega-cup of coffee (equal to approx 2 big mugs), I replaced half the sugar with Splenda and half the cream with fat-free Half and Half.

I'll weigh in the morning. I don't like to weigh after I'm dressed since jeans and canvas pants tend to add weight. I like an even baseline, so I weigh right before I shower.

Gah!!! What happened between yesterday and today? I gained two pounds overnight. Must be those two bottles of Champagne I drank. Oops!

My starting weight this morning is 157.4. And today isn't going to be a great day for weight loss. I'm headed to a friends place for brunch and drinks. But since I have to work tomorrow, I'll only have a few drinks and I'll curb the eating.

On the upside, I've vowed not to spend any money (i.e., no cabs) so I'll be hoofing it and taking the bus.

Okay, I weighed in this morning for my baseline but I plan on weighing again on Saturday as I want my weigh-in days to be Saturday morning. I am too embarrassed to announce how much I am but I will post any losses or gains on here weekly.

I did my push-ups (only 2 hee, hee is all I could do), 20 squats, 20 crunches. I planned on walking today but my cold has gotten worse so it will be a couch day for me. Dangit and I learned how to load songs in my new IPod touch that my DS got for me for Christmas yesterday.

I would be extremely glad if I could lose a pound a week and I think it is doable.

I wish everyone lots of luck in this challenge! We can do it!!

Jacqueline and Madhen, you got it! I was always the skinny girl too so other people don't understand. I've been underweight my whole life til now. I worked out for an hour yesterday evening on my WiiFit so I'm proud of that. I forgot to weigh though. Duh! I've gained 1.5 pounds since the middle of Nov. My BMI was normal though.

Happy New Year to everyone and we CAN do this!

Okay, I was struggling with posting my starting weight, but I just had a baby so I shouldn't be embarrassed. So this morning I weighed myself, and I am right at 205.0. I know that breastfeeding burns a lot of calories, so hopefully that'll help me with losing weight. I'm actually supposed to be eating extra calories, but I'm trying to make healthy low-fat choices instead of just junk foods.
