I am not anything yet - I was just diagnosed a few days before I had surgery so I will be going back in the next few weeks to find out the next steps.
I am open to any and all suggestions and information! Mahalo!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

A few things I've learned:
* routine is key - wake up and go to bed at the same time daily if possible, same with eating
* eat around the same time daily and have snacks - ie 5 mini meals/day
* drink water vs pop or iced tea w/sugar
* measure your serving of fruits and also watch out for specific fruits - tropicals have higher sugar content therefore you need to eat less
* eat balanced, protein - 1/4 of your plate, starch 1/4 of your plate, veggies (not in heavy sauces if possible) 1/2 of your plate - could be steamed, sauteed for salad etc
* go for a moderate/brisk walk (or use the treadmill/stationary cycle if you have the equipment) about 1/2 hour after you've eaten for about 15-20 mins. helps burn off excess calories/sugars not absorbed/digested
* test your blood sugar as instructed.
Once you go see the doctor and nutritionist/nurse - go from there. They are your starting point and best advisers
I'm sure there's more but it depends on what works for you. What I've noticed though is the supposed controlled diabetic diet is the best one out there and works the best lol Though I do use info from South Beach for the glycemic index information.2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Mahalo for the information - straightforward sensible information. Really need to work on the exercise part.

Maui,
Newly diagnosed diabetics can often control it with just exercise and diet. That is usually the first step in caring for the diabetes.Living Single and Loving it!
