IStoolmiller---No group, that I know of, LOL. Maybe there should BE one though! Anyone can start one, I think.
This is just my own personal journal here on FV for logging my progress with eating/blood sugar/exercise, and how those things are helping me avoid diabetes. (I'm at high risk, is all) I am not diabetic YET, just had some high sugars.
But feel free to join in! Anyone is welcome to comment and share stories and advise! I can use all the help and comradery I can get!
Today, I am walking. It is nice and sunny.
Eating has been good. Blood sugars normal. I wanted some potato chips a few days ago----so badly I could have screamed! But I stayed the course. I want to be really good about this for about a year, and get this weight off---it will help the BS's so much if I drop some weight. That's Blood Sugar, not
. LOL!

I've been a slacker on the walking the last few days......

But...I've been eating well (low GI) and not cheating.....
Fasting BS's are still normal. Cool.

I don't know if this works with the bs thing. I have decided when I want a snack; I have a very small "bowl". It holds 5 ounces of water I'm going to have that much. If you took a little bit of chips like one of those snack bags (where there is 3 or 4 chips, LOL) would that be ok or not? If you toally deny yourself maybe you would stop at the store one day and buy and eat a whole bag. Just asking how this works. Thanks

Pam---I probably could, potato chips are actually JUST barely in the lower Glycemic index range, so they would not make my blood sugar jump up TOO far. But, I would have to try them out.
I just am WICKED piggy
with chips, so I haven't ventured too far. I can't stop at just one.........or 50,000........LOL! I'm scared to get started on them.
Today I have had nothing but fresh fruit and nuts, so far.
And we are having steak and asparagus tonight and some raw veg.
I took my walk today, Like a good little girl.______

You are doing great in the eating dept. Keep up the good work. I found that I love swimming so I've been swimming makes exercise so much easier. I used to go to a small weight training class good old fashioned exercise; no machines. It was a scheduled class; also easy for me to go to that way I went for 8 years. My dh's downfall is chips so I know 2nd hand what you are going through. My dh has a 2nd job because of our wonderful economy and he's lost 20#.

My husband is type 2. He's 5'8 and weighs about 117. Lost weight. Not really sticking with a diabetic diet...He can't afford to lose anymore. Never was remotely close to being heavy. Any ideas on food to either gain or at least maintain the weight he has? His work is extremely physical and 6 days a week. Any help would be appreciated

NikoSan999---I am not really a doctor OR a dietitian. Nor do I play one on TV, (HAR HAR
).
BUT, I AM a registered nurse, and I'm fairly sure we get more nutritional instruction than a doctor (EXCEPT for a choice few, like Endocrinologists, etc.) Plus, My SIL is a dietician, and I pick her brain a lot).
I would ----(this is probably NOT going to sound frugal, cause it isn't) send to work with him ---nuts (ANY, but cashews have loads of calories and won't affect his blood sugar so much), cheese, maybe meat sticks, peanut butter. (No white crackers, only whole grain).
This is all just for SNACKING on, not including meals. See if you can get him to stop work and take snacks between his meals, or every three hours.
DH and I (he's diabetic, I am at risk) have been reading lately that Pistachios are good for diabetics (help keep blood sugars in control) becasue they go beyond just NOT raising your BS, but help keep it down because of something that's in them. Also are fairly high in cals. May help. The ones that are already shelled (while more expensive) will be easier for him to eat on the job.______

OH, my! Well, then, I hope my info is all correct. A lot of it I get on online sites (questionable), a lot is from picking my SIL's brain (dietician and very dedicated), and some is just my (30 year old, Yikes!) info from nursing. Plus having DH, Dad, BIL, 2 Aunts, Step-dad who are diabetic.
TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT (disclaimer, here!!) as I am just your average woman who's more at risk than some, studying up and trying to get a handle on it, HERSELF.
I came across the GI charts, and that's been a big help. Anyone who wants to know which foods are LOW Glycemic Index can google it and there are loads of sites and charts and lists.
Good news today. I finally bought a scale for here at the cabin. DH didn't want to have one here, so I bought it and hid it under the bed. I have been anti-scale for years, but trying to lose some of the weight is important to getting this blood sugar to stay in normal limits even when I don't eat as I should (which won't be too often).
Everything I read says that. "Get the weight off".
So.......I am down 14.2 pounds since mid-May! I knew all of my clothes were getting loose, and I had 'guesstimated' about 15# lost. Pretty close. COOL!
I am 'preeeeettttttyyyyy heavy, so it is going to take awhile. But, I am not going anywhere. LOL!______

Waiting till about 2pm to take my walk, because it is supposed to get sunny by then.
I am so tired of walking on rainy or overcast dreary days. LOL!
Eating is still the same. FBS's have been within normal limits. 84 yesterday. Had a couple of higher ones at night, but I am learning what I can and can't eat that way.______
