I was thinking the same thing when I was reading the story, yesterday afternoon. Dysfunctional families aren't just a 21st century thing.

I was almost through the Old Testament when we started this so I just started from there. I'm in Matthew and I've read 37 pages so far. I love the New Testament, I could read it a million times and learn something new each time. I always find a new verse that I underline for later reference.

~I'm keeping up with my reading. I came across something yesterday that wasn't new to me but something I've wanted to research a bit. I'm in Exodus and the priests have Urim & Thummim stones set into the breastplate as an oracle to receive God's decisions. There isn't much mentioned about how they worked but I think it's very interesting. Of course I also read about the ark of the covenant and it drives me crazy not knowing where that is!~

I was thinking the same thing.... But then I tried to picture what the world was like at that time. It probably was safer for Abraham and Isaac but not necessarily for Sarah and Rebecca!

I am joining late as usual. I am going to do the same as Cat except I am going to add the psalms and proverbs 1 chapter a day on rotating days. I will also be using the KJV.

But Cat, isn't that true of the OT too? I find that anywhere I read in the Bible, God keeps it new each time. And as we age and learn things, God reveals to us more and more by the Holy Spirit.

    I'm on Gen 10 now.

Yes it's true of the OT too, but I just love the NT and the promise of an eternal life in heaven. So many of the things are happening right now and so quickly, it won't be long before the trumpet sounds and the Church is taken home.
I read another 11 pages last night.

Finished Genesis and started Exodus. Also reading a psalm and proverb each day. Decided I needed to add some NT reading as well and have started in Matthew.

I made it to Joshua and got slowed down. I blame a sick DS, but I just got tired. I am reading how they divided the hand among the 12 tribes and am so tired of reading town names I can't pronounce. I have to get past this part.....

isn't it crazy ladies, how we can read many books for chapters and chapters, some even finish whole books within a week, but reading the Bible is so hard! I think it simply comes to that it is the most complex book on earth. That the very words of God, although just regular words, are hard for us to understand and translate into our lives. The great impact the Bible has on our lives accounts for the (usually) slow read of the Word.

I hear you! That is why I went ahead and tried for the challenge of reading the Bible in 90 days. So far it seems to average 14 chapters which seems to take anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Some days I do feel I have read too quickly. I keep notes (one or two sentences for each chapter) to make sure I am paying attention and not just reading. It is neat to read it fast enough to remember something that happened earlier and see how it connects with what is happening then.

Finished Joshua today and the first half of Judges.

I'm still reading following the online plan, only reading more each day than they have listed. They have 4 different areas to read each day. Right now I am in Exodus, Psalms, Proverbs and Matthew. I really enjoy getting a little bit of everything. I also think I'm getting more out of both Psalms and Proverbs by limiting how much of it I read at a time.
