    Default WOW! Something is working

I finally lost some weight! And I owe that to some one here On another thread some one recommended checking out the book, The New Atkins for a New You. Low Carb is the ONLY thing I haven't tried.

On weightwatchers I'm starving. On what the naturopath suggested, I was starving... but lost only a 1lb or less. To a max of 2 lbs, which took 4 weeks.

SO, I put a hold on the book from the library and last week I started.

I started induction only 3 days ago. However, here is what I have noticed. The swelling in my legs and feet that has been around since 1/2 way through my last pregnancy(my baby is 6.5 years), is now reduced. Dr. never were concerned for it. The bloating is gone. I'm NOT starving. I don't NEED to snack. I have cut out all the sugars as per recommendation and NO cravings. Even when cutting cake for the kids, my FAVORITE cake, it was fine. I mixed up which vegetables I eat. And I feel pretty good. As the book suggested, watch out for dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Since I don't cook with salt, I don't get much in a day. And since they recommended taking a 1/2 tsp of salt and adding a little to everything I did that. Water was my biggest concern. I have issues with water. But, I started adding a teeny weeny sprinkle of the salt into the water, and it is sooooo much easier to drink. I remember my dad doing that when i was little when we were camping so that we kids didn't dehydrate being outside all day. I can't taste saltiness, but it softens the water a little. Now a water bottle is easy to pack around and drink. I use one with a straw.

AND.... 2 of the days I was on it was at camping! It was so easy! Since we grill a lot, I always steered clear. Now, I have a burger with the cheese, and no bun. Big salad with lots of veggies and a vinaigrette, and I am happy. Breakfast was easy! Chopped veggies into a fresh salsa( I love salsa and eggs..lol), scrambled eggs in a smidge of butter, with a couple low carb sausage, and a cup of coffee, with a tbsp REAL cream.(a recommended meal plan from the book) And I'm good until noon.

I'm not gorging these foods. Just til satisfied. I did step on the scale when we got home, simply because after camping i'm normally up 1 lb.

Now the scale says DOWN 3 lbs. I would assume most of that is water. As I said the swelling in legs and feet is down. The book does say, the initial 2 weeks can be up to 12 lbs, a lot of that being retained water, and then it levels off to a couple lbs a week.

I'm thrilled. I feel this is a way of eating I can maintain for weight-loss and move through the OWL and pre-maintenance and most importantly MAINTENANCE. I can eat with MIL and FIL while camping and not worry about then hassling me.

It feels good so far, curious to see what things will be after 2 weeks. It makes dh happy because he's a big carnivore and isn't fond of the pastas and rices. I am modifying for the kids. They are getting more carbs, they are growing! But I have one that is bordering overweight. So teaching her new ways of cooking and menu planning will be the way to change her eating with no self concious. I have noticed that if she eats more like what I am doing, she isn't in the fridge right away. I won't put her on a diet, but I can change what is available to eat.

So anyway, went off track. Atkins is working for me. I'm not craving, I'm not hungry. I will be purchasing this book! I know it's REALLY early into it, but I am pleased in how I feel! We are going to be on holidays for a couple weeks, so this will be a test for me to say the least, but I don't think it will be that hard to do.

I am glad to hear you found your "balance" for your body. DH is the same way, he is much happier and healthier on low-carb than on the 6-11 servings a day suggested by the USDA.

You say you are 3 days in... watch out for "the atkins flu", it should hit you soon. You may suddenly start feeling like crap as your body adjusts... just stick with it, it will pass and you will feel even better.

I get my 6 to 11, but in the veggies recommended, no fruit at the moment. It's the grains and carbs that are minimizing. Yes I expect the 'flu' that would be a candida flair due to less sugars and no yeast products..lol. BTDT in the past. We'll be fine

Have you ever heard of the eat for you blood type diet? The theory is that wither you should eat omnivore, herbivore. or carnivore is determined by your blood type.

Now I don't know how much to believe it but I can tell you that my husband and I have both eaten all sorts of diets, and the one that has been the absolute best for us is herbivore. It's wasn't until after eating this way for some time and loving it that we discovered that both have the herbivore blood type.

Are you type 0 by chance?
    Type A is strictly vegetarian
    and all others are mixed.

Again this is just a theory, I haven't a clue if it really means anything.
