I have had a really bad eating weeks so far. Went to an engagement party on Saturday with plenty of food, visited my parents on Tuesday and then had dinner in a friend's house last night. I find it so hard to turn down food in other people's homes that they have went out of their way to make for you - it always seems so rude
So I fully expect to have put weight on this week, even though I've been sticking to my plan at every meal except dinner. Back on track as of today.

Squidge, I have the very same problem on turning down food when I visit others. I, too, think I am being rude, by not accepting their offering of love.
Here are a few things I have done to help in that situation, but they don't always work!
1. I make something to take along as a gift to the hostess or a contribution to the meal, which also happens to be something I can eat.
2. I let the hostess know ahead of time that I am on a strict diet, and can't have XXXXXXXX. That usually is the best way. But I also volunteer to bring along something "legal" and explain that it is more important for me to be with good friends/family, and that I didn't want to miss the occasion just because of the diet.
3. I tell the hostess that I can't have XXXXXXX because of my diet, but that I really want to taste just a teaspoon of the dish. Then I rave about how good it is, and thank the hostess for making such a wonderful dish. And I make sure I am sincere, not just gushing out some words.
My favorite strategy, which I've never had the nerve to use, comes from Jean Nidech (spelling?), founder of Weight Watchers. She told people that she had a medical condition: "fatonmythigh", and that she could not eat certain things because of her condition. Hahahahah....
Today I am taking my mother to a gathering of her friends. She doesn't get out much anymore, and it's a privilege to take her. BUT.... it's a dessert/coffee gathering. So I'm going to take coffee, and more coffee...... and politely demur on the dessert, but keep remarking about the wonderful coffee.

Well, it was weigh-in day for me and I'm up a 1/2 lb.

I'm sure it had to do with the apple crisp I've been eating the past two days.
My mom loves to bake and gives me baked goods all the time. Since I am a major sugar junkie this is not good. (wonder how I got that way?) I have told my mom that I have cut sugar out of my diet (not really true but I'm trying) to keep her from giving me baked goods. Well it has worked for a month or so and then this week when I was over there she gave me some apple crisp. She told me it doesn't count as sugar because it's mostly apples. <sigh>
Of course once it's in my house, I eat it!

FHG they are really good tips; thank you
I especially like the idea of trying a dish because then you can still give your thanks. The common deal here is that the host will make the dinner and the guest will bring the dessert. At least that way I can have a very tiny portion of my dessert and leave the rest in my friend's house. Also, "fatonmythigh" is hilarious
Today was still not wonderful - ended up eating chocolates. They are now hidden in the spare room away from my eyes and thighs.2012

We had a slight change of plans. Son called to say he was working in our neighborhood, and could he stop by for lunch. Of course, silly boy! But..... I had some things in the fridge that Hubby and I should not be eating, like noodles, a dessert, some bread, etc. So we ate our supper menu for lunch and will have our lunch menu for supper. And sonny boy got chicken PLUS noodles and bread, and he had dessert!!! Whoo HOO!!! We all won!

Squidge: I hear you! I find I can make apple crisp with stevia in the base, but I've never figured out how to get the brown sugar out of the topping. So we just don't have it here. Maybe switch to an apple cobbler? You can replace the sugar in the topping then with stevia as well. Course you're still eating carbs...

I find I just have to watch carbs period. I just can't have more than 2-4 servings a day or my weight goes up.
I have to go out tonight and need to think of something to take that's healthy. Talk to you all later!

Good morning! Just a gentle reminder that tomorrow I will tally our loses for the week. So be sure to PM me! Hope everyone has had a better week, but I know that we go up and down in the rhythms of life. The important thing is to not give up!
Today:
Breakfast: protein shake, coffee
Lunch: chicken soup with added greens and mushrooms
Snack: high protein cheese snack
Supper: fish, green salad, grilled yellow squash, veggie tray
Exercise: Curves workout
I'm going to craft club today, and they always have a buffet of goodies. I'm taking along my cheese snack plus some celery sticks and am praying that my will and resolve are strong enough to overcome. I've got to keep my new and improved image in front of me!!Spiritual:

Sorry, no loss to post really. I'm at 164.4 lbs. this morning. Two weeks ago I dipped below 164. I am suspecting I'm not getting enough exercise. Plus maybe it's a plateau from losing the first 23 lbs. I'm discouraged, but not ready to give up yet!

I volunteered to clean the church for the month of February, so today I decided to go early since it was my day off. Well there were a couple of church ladies there and they asked me if I was there to workout with them. Turns out a few of them get together on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings to do exercise DVD's.
I worked out with them before I cleaned, even though I was in jeans, not the most comfortable choice to workout in. I am going to start doing this when I can. It's far more fun to workout with others than alone and this will get me working with weights. Not something I really do at home.
