We went to our first Native American funeral yesterday. A few months back I posted about three different people we know all being in the same hospital at the same time. Unfortunately, one of them passed away last week, one is now terminal (Joe) and one is in and out of the hospital.
It was a beautiful funeral. DH was a pallbearer. After the memorial service, they loaded the casket into the back of a '57 chevy truck, the pallbearers climbed in where they could and they took one last drive around the res. Then they drove towards the cemetary and the pallbearers carried the casket up the hill to the cemetary. They had about 10 pallbearers so that they could switch off carrying. The cemetary is beautiful, its at the top of a hill covered in oak trees. The grave was hand dug(!) by members of the community. When they lowered the casket in, community members affixed the cover inside, those who wanted to threw dirt in, then all the pallbearers plus male community members shoveled the all the dirt in. No backhoes here. Afterwards there was a huge buffet meal. I was impressed with how the whole community took part, you could tell it was an awful lot of work. Saturday (the day before) was visitation day and I was told many members stayed up all night singing and dancing in the hall where Vern's body was laid out. We love you and miss you Vern.“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no

SS-what a wonderful community to truly come together like that. I was thinking about Joe the other day and wondering how he was doing. My favorite bookstore has never had any of the large print books that I was going to get for him.
FW - I do not know how you do it - you are a much better person than I. I pray that your family will one day respect you for the person you are- and then I wonder how they can since they don't seem to respect themselves. Prayers for all.
Need to get back to the children -shall return later - take care my friends!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Joe finished chemo. A subsequent test revealed that the cancer was spreading. They went to operate to remove his voicebox but found that the cancer had spread too far. They sent him home for hospice care. Every time we call to ask about visiting we are told he is sleeping so we may just have to go over there and just sit with him while he is sleeping.

FW - (((((((HUGS))))))))
Hi, all!
I'm back on FV! Haven't been posting as faithfully as I used to. Need to get back on the frugal bandwagon since I had to fork out a big Line of Credit cheque to pay off my c/c. That was the wake up call I needed to get back on board.
Guess I should go and finish supper for the girls. My supper is a plate of veggies...I'm getting on the weight-loss bandwagon once again too!
Bye for now, ladies!

SS, the service sounds lovely. I have always thought that I would like to design my own funeral, to make it more personal to who I am, down to my own unique "mix tape" to play me out on....

wow never anyone on and tonight I'm out and I missed all u guys.lol
Starr-first my deepest sympathies and I also want to thank you for posting that lovely description of the ceremony and burial. I am always fascinated w/ groups that have such a great sense of community. Also thank you for the support the other day.
MM- I highly doubt I am a better person than you as you work w/ young children and are willing to let your DH go off to his mom's for a year while you fend for yourself. That is what I call loving and patient. But thank you none the less.
Oh'smom sorry your other DD had to go back. Hope she can visit again soon.
MadHen-hope your transition back to work again isn't too stressful.
QM-welcome back hon. Good luck on the weightloss. I personally am in disaster mode from stress.
Well, filled Yogis pool today and sat under my new red w/ yellow and black (small stripes mostly red) umbrella. It was a nice break as I overdid yesterday.
Went to Costco and got credit to get my nre washer and dryer. I got the Whirlpool Cabrio set. My washer completely died, the dryer worked but had been repaired 3x, was missing a drum bar and had a metal strip around the drum that had come off so UNCLE. I quit, I got them both and financed. So not my style but oh well it done. DH and Ds are crashing around getting old ones out to the side of the house. I am doing my best to stay out of it. I should pay them off but there goes are vacation fund. I would say Enough to spending but 4 cats are going to the vet tomorrow. Better go. Hugs all.

A2M-sorry I forgt ya for a minute. Hope all is well. How's the car holding up anyway?
Well the guys got the old ones out. Now I pray they don't scratch up the new ones.
thinking about ya TERVS. Hope your still healing well. prayers your way.

The car is so funny! It runs fine until it gets to 1/4 tank full of gas and then it misses and runs terribly, but if it has more than a 1/4 tank of gas no problems.
We are doing well. So enjoying the cooler climate.
I have been doing alot of emotional eating though. I have got to stop that, but at least I try to walk a few days a week.
So glad that you will now have a reliable washer and dryer FW. I sure do miss having a washer and dryer. I haven't had to use a laundromat in many years until this move.
Have a nice evening everyone.

A2M-I am a little OCD these days to use the laudromat. And yes they are in and connected.
For anyone interested
Bath and body works sale for 75% off is in progress.
HELLOSALE20 will get you 5.00 off
RETAILMENOT will get you $10. off $30. or more

Welcome back QM!
Waving to A2M, Maui, and Oheo
Congrats on the new bed and new W/D, FW! Its about time on that mattress. Trying to sleep on a broken down mattress that needs replacing is no fun.
So I just found out tonight that my neighbor across the street took the 8 hour/week job. Not as surprising as it sounds. We knew each other before they moved in across the street, we graduated college together with similar degrees, we move in the same circles and live in a small town w/limited jobs. She's wanting to focus on school/internship more than work right now so this is perfect for her.
A2M, sounds like your gas tank has a lot of sediment in it.“When you get to the end of all the light you know

Oh's mom-$500. vacation is prob. dead due to financing of $1400. @ 20.4%. We won't due that. DH is typical. He told me it was all hooked up yesterday and we could use the old hoses. So this morning we had a terrible smell of burning coming from the bsmt AND after he mopped up all the water, He said he will get more tonight. Darn right, just like I told you yesterday. PENNY cheap and Dollar SAD! So cruelly I took the oppertunity to mention that that other cable on the garage door should also be replaced.
I should be reading about the new washer but I was up all night w/ a virus like thing and havent slept but 2hrs?
Got 4 of the cats to the vet. $100. for 4 distemper shots and no exam fees. Now for the others, sigh.
Think I will just right June's budget as HAHAHA BOOOM!!!
Hope everyones well. And yes prayers for DEBC. Say hey to polly too.
