Same as last year folks, I'm declaring war on declining health :fence: through better choices.

It's 1:19 am January 1st. So far, so good.

I have to wonder how today is going to turn out. My GF is coming over for supper with a pork roast in tow, I've got a spiral ham I'm honeybaked ham cloning. (I had 2 hams, each were meant to be cooked different ways for Christmas supper. Long story, but was Christmas canceled due to illness) I know there is going to be mashed potatoes, and sauerkraut, rolls, and German chocolate cake.

So I'll be back later to either fess up or share how well I did. I'm thinking it might be the former. First day too! :thud:

Glad that you started this thread too Polly. Think of today as your belated Christmas feast Polly. Which it is, so officially since you were to sick on Christmas to enjoy, you can start tomorrow on your quest for better health.

Palooka, Howdy! Yes, you did awesome in 2011.

I did well in the fall until so much sickness fell upon my family, but will start over again in 2012.

Here's to better health!

Hey, all. Here I am. New Year, back to better habits. As you guys know, i went through a lot last year. I am finally getting back on track.
Problem is, eating healthy took a MAJOR blow as I righted my life again. Convenience foods, fast food, etc all made their way back in a big way to the point where if it took me mroe than 20 minutes and two boxes, I wasn't making it. :O
So this year, I am starting fresh again. I still have a lot of "junk" in my house. As a matter of fact, the kids and I made a junk run to walmart just this last week so we would have "snacks" in the house while they were home. shame on me.
So we will whiddle away at what we have in the house, and replace it with healthier or homemade.
Also, I am declaring a war on McDonalds. I can't afford it and neither can our health!

Polly, I say go for it since you was sick on Christmas. :)

Good to see you, Shelli

A2M, hope the sickness stays away from your family this year.

Welp, I had 2 apples yesterday and one today, and water. To tired to do much since I stayed up until 3am last night!!! Too tired to go to Costco also to pick up some steel cut oatmeal, but oh well. Got plenty of food.

I slacked a little in nov and dec on the exercise but plan to make that up this year! :)

nothing wrong with some special treats on special days - i think depriving yourself of things like that makes it harder to do the everyday things one needs to do .

Mmmm Cheese and chocolate.....:p

Well ladies, I actually did pretty well yesterday. I just did not feel like eating before supper, and I really was too busy getting ready to eat. My GF brought over a fabulous pork loin that she butterflied and loaded with and kinds of spices, it was tender and juicy and perfectly low fat. I ended up with pork loin, salad, only a half a cup of mashed potatoes (they were loaded with butter and cream). A few pickles from the relish platter prior to supper.

I'm going to take that pass for dessert ladies, I had a small slice of German chocolate cake and 2 glasses of wine.

Considering how bad I could have blown it, I think I did alright. :) It was really nice dining by candlelight, eating off the good china, and spending time with my friend. Lots of laughs, and remember whens, it was a nice night.

Awesome, Polly! You enjoyed but didn't overindulge. SCORE! :)

For me, today has been better than yesterday, but still not where I want to be. As i said, I am going to use up what I have, I can't afford to waste. so I am still eating the sausage with egg sandwich for breakfast. today I am going to be making bread, so that will be haltheir at least.
For lunch, it was pasta with parmesean, its what the kids wanted and it's their last day home. could have been worse :)
dinner will be pork loin, I don't know with what. snack time will be hard, but I bought honeycrisp apples and cheddar cheese ;)

Glad to see this posted. I really must begin to take better care of myself and my health. Reading this will give me inspiration to consider making better decisions to improve my health. Heres to a healthy 2012 !

Welcome Mamaw.

I did 60 minutes on the treadmill today. I was thinking about all that Christmas candy I shoved in my mouth. LOL Plus good music blasting in my ears. heh

I ate a big salad for lunch. Lots of grape tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers. Now I'm so relaxed and tired, a nap doesn't sound bad. But that would screw my sleeping tonight!

Ugh and my throat hurts a little.

So glad to see this here again. I mostly read last year but I kept up what you all were doing. I still need to work on taking better care of myself like all of you. Today was ok and I worked hard deep cleaning my living room so that's my exercise. Happy New Year all.

between Thanksgiving and yesterday, I have eaten way more candy than allowed/permitted/even made sense to eat. So today after lunch (back at home) I was looking around for anything chocolate - and came up with nothing - but I remembered the jars of fruit in very light syrup that I had purchased last week - had a little and it satisfied my sweet tooth. Will be going to the grocery store tomorrow - want to remember some fresh apples. Score one for the good guys!!

Mahalo for getting this started again Polly - am ready to immerse myself here!!

Did good at dinner. Actually cooked! Apple cider pork with carrots and homemade bread :) I hope I can keep this up! Maui, good for you for getting your sweet tooth curbed with a healthier choice :)
Joy, wtg on the exercise. That is something I sorely lack with.

I'm definitely jumping onto this thread! I just turned 56, so my days of sitting around and eating like a pig must come to an end! No more taking my good health for granted! I did a Leslie Sansone workout video this morning and made it to the end without collapsing. Score one for me! :relieved:

Joyofsix, please post more and don't be shy. :)

Cashcow, glad you are here and WTG.

I've got pinto beans soaking for tomorrow. It's going into my handy dandy vegetarian crock pot for a few meals this week. Maybe some enchiladas or beans straight from the bowl! :) Or maybe freeze for later. That's the rest of my pinto beans and I'm not buying more until I finish the black and Northern ones. Being frugal and healthy.

Well, my good choices are starting as of today after my thoroughly indulgent Christmas period. The fridge freezer won't be usable until tomorrow so I'm afraid that limits my options for what I can eat since there's very little in the house. Had beans on toast for lunch/breakfast and my suggestion will be an omelette this evening - low in calories and big on taste.

Does vacuuming count as exercise? ;)

well, I am not doing that well, basically because there is still so much junky food in the house. better, though than before I started. I had my egg and sausage (I know) sandwich on homemade bread, and I was so full, I couldn't finish it. Then at lunch I had tostitos with shredded cheese and ham. Altogether not great, but better than I would have done had I not even been trying! (Sad, right?)
Dinner will be good. I am making waht we call meat and cheese pockets, which are basically hot pockets made with pizza dough. I make the dough myself, so a healthier choice.

Yes Squidge, vacuuming definitely counts as exercise in my book! At my house, I often have to push the vacuum through ankle deep dog hair which is definitely a workout.:beat:
 That certainly sounds like a challenge. I'm glad so many of you agree about how sweat-inducing housework can be. :relieved:

Polly and Palooka I hope you guys feel better soon :hugz: It's not easy to take care of yourself at the best of times and being under the weather certainly doesn't help any.

I am a complete disaster - my food choices have been awful and I've been avoiding the scales like the plague BUT I did drink about a litre of water today and I had a multi-vitamin this morning. Plus I had my usual thirty minute walk (I can't get to and from work without it, but I'm damn well counting it!).

So far so good. I did have a couple cookies my dd baked last night but just two. That's a victory because I can eat a dozen . Today I've had 2 pancakes w/blueberries, a ham sandwich and 1/2 can of tomato soup. Dinner should be salad, green beans and pasta.
I've been working on dressing better. It was baaaad ladies (4 yo maternity t-shirts anyone?). I've slowly restocked some nicer t-shirts at sales and got a few scarves at the dollar store and some earings. Today is a brown turtleneck w/ brown cardigan (Goodwill) and Levis with little brown boots I got at Penney's on deep, deep discount. I added a brown scarf, bracelets and earrings. I'm comfortable but better and appropriate for the library and dentist I did today. I honestly think dressing is harder for me than eating well.

I ate a good breakfast of 2 scrambled eggs, 1/2 ff pepper jack cheese slice, onions and 1/2 grapefruit.

Lunch was bowl of hot and sour soup and about 1/4 serving of cashew chicken with 1/3 c fried rice

Did 10 min on treadmill, 20 ball crunches and 10 wall push-ups

Yep, housework counts!!!

Everyone of you ladies Rock!!!

So yesterday was a bit of a blur, not feeling 100% yet. I ate healthier, pork loin, and a very lightened up mashed potato. I had a thin slice of cake for brunch.

Today is more of the same, pork loin. My MIL had brought over a pork loin, a big bag of potatoes, and sauerkraut for New years, but we had Christmas on New Years. So in the crockpot went 4 pounds of cubed potatoes, a stick of butter, a huge butterflied porn loin roast and 3 pkgs. of Good Seasonings Italian dressing mix. A big bag of hard rolls to go with. I'm not going to play food police with my guys on this meal, I'll get a small portion and let let have the rest. I expect they will have it polished of before the end of the night.

I haven't eaten anything yet today except hot tea. Tonight will be

~pork loin
~potatoes
~sauerkraut
~hard roll

Maybe I'll eat some dessert later
