Ann, I would love to see what a clean eating day for you is. If you don't mind sharing. I'm trying to clean up my veggie diet a bit.

I was asking anyone that followed the "clean eating" regimen.

I checked the mag website and the recipes I read all said egg whites...none said anything about using whole eggs. nor were there any recipes using the yolks.

Well for me it would be Nothing canned or prepackaged.
I keep a selection of pre-soaked beans frozen in the freezer.
I don't use any unnatural sweeteners and that includes white sugar.

On a simple day my menu might look something like this
    Breakfast
Bulgar soaked in orange juice and sliced grapes

    or a smoothie

1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 1 banana, 1/2 nut milk, 1 1/2 tablespoon raw honey, 1/2 cup ice

    Lunch is probably a salad
Always with nuts or beans on it for the nutrients
or a sweet potato topped with black beans and fresh salsa

Dinner is most often a stir fry
I use a wide variety of fresh produce and season it with a soy sauce substitute called Bragg's liquid aminos. And of course with brown rice.

snacks are always fresh fruits or veggies with a homemade sauce of some type. Cashew cream is a favorite.

Keep in mind I'm also big on eating a lot of raw foods. And I keep it low fat for weight loss. For Protein I like Tempeh and beans.

I eat fairly similar. I have homemade meusli, oatmeal or a protein shake for breakfast, mostly salads for lunch and I eat lots of stirfries or chicken or fish on the grill with veggies for dinner. I love fruit, my favorite snack. I also snack on nuts and make my own granola and the like. I also feel soooo much better since I have started eating this way about 4 months ago. I am a lot less lethargic and just feel better in general.

I am so excited to see this thread. Generally people think you can't be frugal and eat a clean diet. Well, you can! I am glad this frugal website has people like you all who are addressing clean eating. We eat nothing processed or hydrogenated in our home. It is hard when friends have us over though because we don't want to be rude and we pay later.

What is Bulgar? I'd like to understand clean eating more, but I'm not fully grasping it yet. Are you allowed whole wheat whole grain bread? What are some side dishes with your dinner....just veggies and salads or can you have potatoes? I'm sorry for all the questions, but I really am curious.

Thanks for sharing. I pretty much used to eat this way and then I let too many processed foods back in and have paid the price. I've slowly have eliminated canned foods in the house, more frozen and fresh.

Yum, sweet potatoes and black beans are yummy together. There was a time when I ate a sweet potato with lunch every day. I need a kick in the butt again to get back to that!! I did more of the McDougall diet, which isn't that far off from this.

Can you share your cashew cream recipe? Sounds wonderful!

    Smile Clean Eating Forum Needed

Is there a complete forum for Clean Eating on here? I'm just starting and need tons of advice. My biggest problem is grocery shopping for healthy ingredients. I am also starting the Dave Ramsey budget and my grocery bill this week would have got me stoned on that forum. I need to know how to do this on a budget without having to sell off the children.

I've never heard of Clean Eating but this is the way we eat. We eat very few processed foods (Soy Curls, tofu, olive oil, DD and I eat some Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese and Sour Cream, can't think of anything else right now). No junk foods.

We eat whole grain cooked cereals, fruit (fresh, home canned without sugar, or home frozen) nuts, seeds, beans, brown rice, other whole grains, vegetables (most of which we grow ourselves).

We don't use any kind of butter or margarine. DS puts a little olive oil on his gluten-free bread that I make. We make all our breads, granola, gluten meat substitutes. DS is also allergic to soy so he doesn't eat any of the processed foods that DD and I eat, except the olive oil.

This way of eating seems to be popular now. When we started years ago, we were oddballs!

We have been eating, healthy, clean and as much grass fed and organic possible and can do it for less the average family per month. We do garden though, and buy in bulk. We don't eat preservatives, additives, and do eat as much raw as possible. I make my own yogurt and cheese, granola ,museli mixes , smoothies and in the summer grow as much as we can or buy from a produce co-op for organic.

I cook from scratch, we eat no processed and did it for health the extra bonus is how much we save on groceries and how healthy we eat.

I love gardening, growing sprouts, as well as baking and cooking so that helps.

Clean eating for me means washing my hands before eating.
