Default Looking for a really kickin' side dish

I'm going to smoke some pork and chicken over the holiday weekend and I'm looking for a new side dish recipe. Or dessert. Something that isn't the same old potato salad or cole slaw or pasta salad. Something healthy, and if it is a dessert then not too full of sugar.

    Any favorites to share?

My preferred sides are really not very exciting or particularly new, but garlic roasted sweet potato fries are my absolute favourite.

My Irish favourites are champ - creamy mashed potatoes with scallions (spring onions) - and colcannon - creamy mashed potatoes with kale or cabbage and scallions (you can add leeks and/or onions, too).

We make something similar to this in the summer: http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/T...zarella-Salad2

The recipe I use (which I now can't find) has basalmic vinegar and a jar of sun-dried peppers as well.

We also make a lot of asparagus:

My kids like a simple fruit salad---kiwi, bananas, strawberries, etc. I put a bit of melted orange jam over it.

The ribs and BBQ chicken just scream spicy rice dish w/ tomatoes. I guess I would put broccoli and use brown rice?

Are you tired of deviled eggs? Too much work? Those are such a hit no matter how many times I serve them at holidays.

Is there too much sugar in carrot salad? (carrots & raisin salad) That's one we don't have often and like.

Fruit pizza is also a hit here and you can make it with yogurt to cut back on the sugar of it. Fruit Pizza II Recipe - Allrecipes.com

But if you are serving a large amount of people it will disappear on you. I think that's why people stick to pasta and potato salads, it feeds more cheaply.

Oh, for a variety on potato salad I love a good german potato salad instead of the traditional yellow mustard ones.
