Default Favourite/best chair to sit in while....

I am in the middle of cleaning my upstairs bedroom. Having moved the bed, I now find that I have a nice clear area near a big window that will be lovely this winter for sitting and knitting, reading, beading, and watching t.v.

My question is, what kind of chair is best? What type of chair do you like best? Recliner, rocker, overstuffed, loveseat, papasan, other....? What is the chair you always gravitate toward when you want to be comfortable, but not necessarily immobile? I want to pick a perfect chair for the room. Size is not a big issue, but it has to work as a multi-purpose and COMFORTABLE place to sit.

No question - a recliner. It feels so good to get my feet up. But it will also rock if I want that.

As for multi-purpose, I have found it to be a great stand in for a hospital bed in the first days after surgery. After a couple of abdominal surgeries, I could not tolerate the bed at all - the mattress as too "bendy" - but I could sleep comfortably on my recliner. It just has to be one that will stay reclined far enough back. Some brands are made to be springier and remain more upright.

Thanks, Donna! I was thinking of a recliner, or of a rocker with a foot rest. I love those papasan chairs, but I think I would just sink in and fall asleep.

The only problem with my recliner is that once I sit down I never want to get up again! Working on that....

I wouldn't suggest a papsan chair. I don't know why, but there just isn't enough structure to them or something.

I've sat in them before, and they are pretty darn comfy. But they are just sort of a big pillow in frame, so not set up well for doing anything other than just sort of laying there like a lump of lard.

I had a rocker-glider with a glider-ottoman. It was a baby shower gift and I cried the day I had to get rid of it (a very-very large man sat in it and snapped the arms off! I am a fluffy girl and still had plenty of room)
