Family Cookbooks
Do any of you have family cookbooks. I would love to have my mother's recipes but she never wrote them down anywhere and I was still very young when she passed. I have put a few of mine on a zip disk along with some of my poems. I was thinking of printing them out for my daughter. A friend of mine said she would love to have a copy too. I was wondering if anyone had done something like this and if they knew of a place to get it done at besides like a copying store. You have all been so very helpful in the past so where else would I go but here?

My mom was/is a lousy cook, lol - so wouldn't want her cookbook!!!
Actually nobody in my family was much of a cook - grew up in New England - and all the food was pretty blah - new england boiled dinners, etc.
Wasn't til I moved to California that I learned what spices were. Now my favorite is Mexican food!

I am from new england too, but my whole family cooks and well except for me.,. I know you should be able to take them to a printers and have them done into books. I am not sure of how much they would cost though.

I'm working on a church cookbook right now. We are going through Morris Press-but the minimum order is 200 books. What about Kinkos or something like that?

You could make a nice book yourself... print it out on your computer. Add nice clipart... maybe pictures of the family members. Little tidbits (hobbies, interests) about the people. Make it a little bit personal.

Thanks Sherry I didn't even think about that. That would be a lot cheaper too because I would like to put my poetry in it as well.

When I was younger, my Grandmother (best cook ever!) hand wrote 6 cookbooks for each of her grand daughters (I was one of the lucky 6) It had all sorts of recipes in it with little stories about why she made it or who taught her. I still use it all the time and I treasure it! She is still alive, but long after she passes, I will make sure that cookbooks stays in the family and that my kids know what a great cook she was!

I did this for my niece's bridal shower last year. I e-mailed and snail mailed everyone on both sides of the family for recipes/pictures and stories. Then I went to this site:
http://www.bhg.com/bhg/mycookbook/
Picked my format and imported all the information into it. Then clicked "print" and voila! One personalized cookbook!
I took it to Kinko's and had it bound and a plastic cover put on it- cost was about $7.00 for 2 books (I kept one too!) and they were each 134 pages long.
It was the hit of the bridal shower as everyone wanted to see their name in print. The site also gives you a link to share, so everyone can print their own book. So far we've had over 20 people print ours.

Thanks alot sunshine. That is very affordable. I think I might just do this. I was wondering if I did this do you think some people would like them as Christmas gifts? At seven bucks who can beat that?

I printed mine at home, so the cost at Kinko's was cheaper. It will be more expensive if you have them print copies. It's also more expensive if they add a cover. I used cardstock for a cover and they just added a clear plastic cover.
I would think that people would love it as a Christmas gift! I collect cookbooks (use them all too!), so I imagine most people would love it as well.

I think I will do just that Sunshine, if money allows. If they don't like it then they can give it back right. I'll find someone who wants it. Thanks for all you help and thanks everyone for being so helpfull.
