All Hobbies Retreat Weekend ~ Nov.18-20, 2011
~Have you ever been on a retreat? It's amazing how getting away from all your usual routines and distractions allows you enjoy the one thing your retreat is about.
It's been requested that we bring back the crafters' retreat weekends here on FV. I'm excited to see if there is interest in this so let's start with this weekend.
Previously, this was a monthly sewing/quilting retreat but I'd prefer it to be inclusive to all hobbyists. I know I have a ton of sewing to do, but I also have scrapbooking, knitting, painting and candlemaking to work on as well. I think most of us dabble in more than just sewing.
Do you want to join the virtual retreat this weekend? What do you want to work on? What's your retreat plan?~~Constance

~I have to work around my hubby's plans this weekend so I'm making a retreat schedule so that I can work without distraction while he is home.
Basically I'm scheduling 90 minute work sessions broken up with "me" breaks. To make it feel more like a personal retreat my breaks will be:
nature walk
fiction reading
"high" tea
I will not do any housework, cooking, cleaning or laundry during my retreat hours(9am-6pm). The food plan for day 1 is pizza, day 2 is leftovers and the plan for day 3 is soup in the crock pot.
Mainly I want to get my big cloth diaper project done. I think I'm going to run out of thread in my serger though.
If I do I'll move on to my baby clothes scrapbook project. I started it last night and draft planned 4 pages.
All in all I hope to get in 7 hours of crafting. I wish it could be more but DH will be away half the weekend.

I'm in! I have a dollhouse for my nieces to finish up, and a few sewing and quilting projects that need finished as well. No specific plans at the moment for what gets done when.
I'm already planning for thanksgiving weekend to be a big painting binge. I will cook thurs and then it will be 'fend for yourself' until Monday night.Use it up, Wear it out,

I'm actually going to and teaching some classes at a scrapbooking retreat this weekend at the lake resort. Usually we have/host 30 people, this year it's just 22. Before Friday I need to plan out what I'll be working on, so I'm more efficient. Also need to get more photos printed.
Vermont has two seasons: Wintah and the Fourth of July.

I'm in. My goal is to finish The Sweater by the end of the month, so this should help. I can sit in the living room by the fire and look out at the lake, no resort required.
Perfect.

I'm going to a scrapbooking workshop tonight and that is a great start to a crafting weekend!! Tomorrow I have some winter tags for a swap that I need to make - fortunately I prepped for this earlier so I get to do all the fun stuff tomorrow!!

I've found a shelter that wants my Snuggles crocheted blankets for their kitties, and we'll be going there Monday. My whole weekend will be a push to see how many I can complete before Monday, as we don't get to that town very often so the more I can deliver to them, the better. Each one takes about an hour so I should be able to add quite a few to the ten I have done already.
It's not looking good for The Sweater this month.

here's my plan
Count me in, since that's what I was already planning to do this weekend.
Christmas gifts:
I have 3 handcrafted rugs to finish off with bindings.
And I want to get started on my grandkids slippers.
All week long, in my free time, I've been browsing the internet and printing out free patterns for many great rug, slippers and miscellaneous projects. This is how I want to use up all my fabric & yarn resources on hand, in time.
My hands are rested from cutting fabric strips for awhile, so I hope to be able to work 3 hours per day on actual projects this weekend. After that, I'm all in. I also made some Christmas address labels and want to get my cards and envelopes together.
I cooked and baked all week too, so my fridge is full and I can get meals and snacks quickly.
Hopefully, this weekend I'll be able to accomplish a lot.
Any spare time will be spent in bed-rest recuperation and delving into my gift-wrapping supplies to put things in readiness for packaging the gifts. I wish I had my former strength to do these things, but thank God, I still have 1/3 left, and if I pace myself carefully I should be able to get lots done.
All the best to everyone this weekend! If I don't post again till it's over, it's probably because I'm working away at my projects.

~Yay! I'm so glad you all are ready to craft!
I'm avoiding shopping this weekend too. I had DH pick up what I needed on his way to a party.
Homeschooling is still going on here(and probably until 4 today, ugh). Unfortunately there are some school things to do tomorrow as well since we skipped Wednesday(sedation dentistry done on ds). DH should be able to handle that so I can sew in the morning.
I just laid the baby down for her nap so I can pop on and off the machine for some sewing while ds does his worksheets.
My goal for this weekend is to complete the gift for my sister's baby. The shower is next weekend. We'll be gone until Wednesday, then Thanksgiving at my mom's leaving only Friday to wrap up any unfinished things. And I'd rather be visiting with my family than doing last minute sewing. So I need to get done ASAP!
Completed/Total Goal
wipes 30/30
small diapers 9/18
small inserts 0/36
small covers 0/3
medium diapers 0/18
medium inserts 0/36
medium covers 0/3
I can sew up a diaper in about 20 minutes and an insert in about 3 minutes. I'm looking at about 15 hours of total sewing to get these done.
Starting NOW!~~Constance

Incognito, I would love to learn more about the rugs you are making and how and why you are binding the edges. I have a lot of fabric that I want to make rugs out of also. Please!!

All ready to go here. The shelter just e'd and they have 39 kitties right now, ten of which are kittens. So my goal is to have at least 29 Snuggles ready by Monday morning, which could get interesting. I need to do about twenty more in addition to what I have already. Hope I get there. I don't want to disappoint any of their kitties!

~Wow, Deer, your hands are going to turn into machines at that production rate!
I was able to get two diapers sewn during school/naptime. Need to take a break to get dinner going and then I can work for another hour before we eat.
I want the small dipes done today. Only 7 to go.

Ok I am in also. Maybe this way I will get the church banners done.
I will be working on assembling the felt appliques this weekend thabe sewn on to the banners. I have a 3 foot tall cross with a satin fabric centered in the middle of the cross. I need to hand sew the satin fabric to the felt. Then I have a scallop shell, a butterfly, a shaft of wheat and a grape vine that I need to assemble that will also be sewn around the cross.
Next weekend I will be working on the felt for the Presbyterian cross symbol that will be for the second banner.
I think I will be quite busy doing a lot of hand stitching this weekend.
I really hope that I will hold myself accountable for getting these banners done by participating in the weekend retreats. I truly wish that we could actually get together in person to share and craft.Hello from Sunny Central Florida
