    Default Gourds with pics

These are what I made for Christmas:
That's Ruby, and she loves that elk skin...

Now, if I could figure a way to grow about a thousand of them, I could start a home business...Ha...

Do you have a place to grow a 1000 of them ? I know I have seen the seeds, I would guess you have seeds from the ones you crafted with...

Sometimes the pictures don't show up for me either, just the little red x , in the corner. Sometimes it's because the picures take a while to load. If you right click on the little red x and then click show picture, it should show up.

The inside is tapestry material, whip stitched to the gourd lip with cotton crochet thread. Holes are drilled about 1/4 inch apart, around the lip. The tapestry is gathered to fit the bottom and a piece of felt is glued over the bottom in a circle. Then the handles are wrapped in suede lacing, sometimes. Beads added for design.
It takes about 6 hours, start to finish, to make one...

Mice got into the seeds and I am finding them all over the new house, we're building. They keep showing up in boxes and insulation. Big problem, as we haven't even moved in yet and already have company, boo hoo...

I think that we will try to plant, all we can, this summer and see what happens.

I think, I'll enter one in the county fair, it's good for a free ticket to the fair anyway...

They are called bushel gourds, but my seed is starting to get crossed with some other gourds I planted, so it's kind of a crap shoot as to what I get. We have an arbor on the green house that we grow them on. It makes them hang straight down, and they stay rounder(don't get flat on one side)
I keep them on the vine until the first or second freeze and then put them in the green house for the winter. It takes a long time to dry. Those gourds were grown in summer of 2002. The 2003 gourds are still green and won't be ready to use until summer.

This is how DH makes them. He uses different permanent markers.
