Default How many yrs have you been doing your favorite craft...

...and how did you get started?

My love of flowers and plants started at a very young age. In highschool, I wanted to learn floral design, so took some basic classes. Then I worked pt in a floral shop and took more classes. Then as the yrs went by, I went to many trade shows and conventions. The supplies that are available are incredible and I really enjoy it. I loved my job because I had an opportunity to do something I really enjoyed on a daily basis. My skills were primarily sharpened from doing specifically requested work and custom work.

There was always an opportunity to learn new trends and styles too.

I've been doing floral design in some capacity since I was 17.

I've been doing crafts since I was 18, but my quilting started 17 years ago. I have always had an interest in quilts and one Christmas, my oldest son and his fiance at the time paid for me to take a quilting course. I really enjoyed the course at the time.

I continued to do other crafts, but when I started my journey into simple living, I decided to find out what my true love was when it came to crafts. I took a long hard look at what I loved and that was colors. They fascinate me. I realized I could use colors more in quilting than in any other craft I did. I then really got into quilting and its now my passion.

I took my first tole painting class about 4 years ago. I love to go to craft fairs and I would see such cute things but they would be really expensive so I figured I would learn how to paint so I could have cute things for my home and not have to pay a fortune for them!

Oh, I love colors too. I've always had a thing for mixing and matching colors.......

My mother sewed all of our clothes. I was little when she started me pinning and cutting patterns and sewing on buttons. I think I was 8 when I did my first all by my self project, a hand stitched baby bib for charity. Mom wouldn't let me use the machine.

I took Plastic Canvas as a way to get my dexterity in my right hand back after surgery. It's less strain on the eyes and I love the 3-D look. I am now addicted to it..lol.

I've never been a crafter, I guess my creative urges were generally sated with writing and (sometimes) painting. My sister is a quilter and my dil teaches quilting and other crafts so I do know the amount of work involved in some crafts.
I'm in this thread, Sara, to let you know how much I enjoy and appreciate the layout and colours of these pages. I think your design history shows in what we see here every day and I bet your craft work is equally beautiful. There aren't many web sites that I'd use the work "beautiful" on, but this one is.

I learned to crochet when I was 8 (I'm almost 43 now) but there were several years- mostly in Jr. High, where I didn't crochet at all.

Marcia, here is a link to check out. http://www.folkartkits.com/ these look really big, most of the stuff I have seen at craft shows are very small, like doll house size.

I started sewing in 7th grade at the age of 11 and have been doing it ever since.

I started painting when I was a kid. I also did latch hook for awhile and during high school I grew plants and vegetables. I love painting and gardening the most but don't do much of either anymore due to my health
