Default questions for the sewing ladies

I'm almost at the point where I'll start sewing regularly. I'm thinking about an apron. I've gone through all my supplies and I'm getting my sewing box in order. I need to replace several colours of thread but I'm not sure which type to buy.

    1. If I'm sewing cotton fabric, do I need to sew with cotton thread too? And ditto for polycotton, do I use a synthetic thread?

    2. Does the quality of thread matter? My current collection is a mess of good and poor quality threads. What's best? Does it pay to spend the extrato get good quality thread?

    3. When ending off a line of sewing, is it best to back sew to finish off or to tie the thread?

    Thanks gals.

    1. Polycotton is good for all kinds of clothing construction. I think cotton thread is used mostly for quilting.

    2. Yes! The quality of thread matters. You don't want it breaking off mid seam!

    3. I think most of us backstitch at the beginning and ends of all of our seams. No tie(ing) required.

    Enjoy!

Everything Karen said, but Bethany if you have good thread in the following colors, your set for now.
White, Black, Tan, Beige or Gray. You really only need the small spools of thread to match what you are sewing when you do topstitching where it will show.

    Have fun sewing!
