WAIT!! Don't throw that out!!
I'm in desperate search of that really thick plastic stuff that comes in a pack of bacon.....
If you would be so kind to save them for me, I'll gladly reimburse postage to get them to me!!
I need lots of them - I'll show you why when I get the one I'm working on done!
You can PM or email me when you have some ready to go & I can either send you a SAS manilla envie or stamps or paypal or reimburse you once they get here, whatever you prefer....

Just a thought....I was just wondering, is it the same kind of plastic that they wrap new mattresses in? I know my neighbour goes to the mattress stores and gets this plastic to use for a variety of projects and to cover items on his trailer. It's heavy and thick.

Not exactly, I don't think....
this stuff is thick & stiff - some folks cut shapes in it to stencil and such....it's a little thicker/stiffer than a gallon-sized milk jug's plastic is - boy that sounds choppy, hope you're following here!!
I can't think of what else you could compare it to......or other uses for it other than stencils - well - except my use which I'll share when it's finished!!

Is it as thick as a margerine/butter tub top?
My mom has used those before to make stencils.~~ Dee ~~

Yes! It's about that thick & about that stiff too - but a tub top isn't big enough!!
Okay - here's the deal - I'm making little scarf/bandana type head coverings for Belle & I want to make them with a stiff band in the front, elastic at the nape, and then attach the scarfy thing to the back of the band....basically a modified headband (think 60's housewife) with a flowy little bandana thing...
So I want to create a casing for the "bacon plastic" and close the band portion with a scrunchie/cushiony little piece of elastic at the nape of her neck.....then attach a triangle piece of fabric for the "bandana" part - just something that looks a little nicer than a regular bandana in her hair! She's growing it out too so this will help keep it out of her face....
Man - I wish I had a pattern....it's all right here in my head - see it?! Goodness knows there's nothing else in there!
I hope this is making sense! I'm woeful that it isn't!
I just need that really stiff plastic stuff to pull this off!!

what kind of bacon are you buying that has this in there? i buy the 3lb package at sam's but there is no plastic in with it other than teh sleeve teh bacon is in. but that isn't very thick.
i'm not sure if i have my head wrapped around what you are doing, but would it be possible to use a headband from the store instead of the plastic if you can't get enough? i found a bandana with a headband built into it at target, it's by goody. it wouldn't fit me but it fits my 6 year old.
i do hope you can get the plastic though. i'm sure your daughter will love it.wife to carl

Plastic canvas will work for that type of project I think--- just in case you don't get enough bacon plastic (I buy mine in 10 lb boxes)

Thanks Missy!
Plastic canvas is too thick - she ended up looking like Lieutenant O'Hura from Star Trek!!
That foam stuff didn't work either....
I've got a ton of cardboard, but I need this to be washable & sweat-resistant!

We love bacon here, just wish it wasn't so expensive(about $3lb.) I'll send you the plastic when I get 'em Debbie. Btw, I like your idea.

Debbie,
How about actually using a margarine tub. I buy my margarine in 2-3 lb. tubs, and if you cut "strips" out of it (think horizontal strips), it just might work. I may have some old tubs I could send to you.... For that matter, an ice cream pail may work too if you cut it this way.
