    Question Fabric Question

I have lots of clothes that belong to my brother who is in a nursing home. These are clothes he has outgrown. Mostly it is shirts and pj's. They are all cotton and have varying degrees of wear. Shirts are snap front and pj's have buttons. I don't want to donate them because his name is in them in several places.

Now my question, do you think it's worth saving the fabric from them? They are thin cotton with various patterns (you know typical men's pj's and shirts). I know I will save the buttons from the pj tops but can't decide if I want to cut the largest parts out of the fabric and keep it too.

    What would you do?

If you quilt, I would consider making him a quilt with the fabric.

Well before I saved it, the material would have to be in fairly good shape, not thin. I would save all the buttons and zippers if there are any.

If your going to put time in making a quilt, you'd want to make sure that the material wasn't too worn. You don't want to go to all that work and have it wear out in no time.

If it was me, I wouldn't save them. I know, probably sounds wasteful. Before I threw them out though, are there any that can be donated to charity. Also, do you need rags for cleaning especially considering you have animals and such.

The rag pile was where I was planning on putting them, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't being wasteful. There may be some fabric that is not to worn, but much of it is. I had even thought of saving it to go inside a quilt as an extra layer of insulation but don't know, it might show through.

If you really want your brother's clothes to be put to very good use, dispite them being worn in places, please send them to Ugly Quilts for the Homeless

They will love the donation and you will know that even worn clothing has a useful purpose!

Thanks Michele. I'll check into that. Last night I sat down and cut all the buttons off and did cut the ones that were flannel into large fabric squares. I'll use those for cleaning and dusting around the house.
