Holly Gift Bucket
Designed by Cheryl Ball
Gift wrap paper makes this gift bucket a snap to make!  Simply paint and decoupage for a quick and bright holiday treat holder. Keep in mind that you can use this decoupage technique for the holidays or anytime the occasion calls for a celebration!
MATERIALS
  • Delta Ceramcoat® Acrylic Paint - or colors to match desired papers used
    • Ultra Blue - 2038
    • Periwinkle Blue - 2478
    • White - 2505
  • Delta Ceramcoat® Satin Interior Varnish - 07 002 0200
  • Delta Ceramcoat® Satin Decoupage Medium - 07 020 0202
  • Delta Ceramcoat ® Metal Primer - 07 010 0202

Other Materials
  • Metal bucket
  • Wrapping paper or napkins
  • Brushes - #12 flat, 3/4" flat brush
  • Cotton swabs
  • Scissors
  • 3 yards - 1" grosgrain ribbon to match
  • Plastic plate for paint
INSTRUCTIONS (Note: for best results, please take a moment to review all instructions on product packaging before beginning any project.)
  1. Wash and dry bucket. Brush on the Metal Primer following label instructions.

  2. Paint the bucket with Ultra Blue, or desired color, and let dry. Add more coats if needed, drying thoroughly between coats - a blow dryer will speed this step.

  3. Cut out the desired shapes from the wrapping paper. (Napkins or color copies of photos would also work but be sure to always test with the Decoupage before starting on actual project to see if colors bleed.)

  4. Squeeze out a small amount of the Periwinkle blue on the plate. Thin with water to the consistency of milk. Use the #12 flat brush to paint on the double row of squares at the top of the bucket and single row at the bottom. Let the width of the brush create the squares. Let dry.

  5. To seal the bucket, brush on an even coat of the Decoupage Medium to the outside of the bucket and let dry following label instructions. Brush Decoupage Medium to the back of the paper design and quickly position in place on the bucket, there will be a few moments to move the design, if needed. Use brush (or brayer) to move any bubbles to the edges. Continue with remainder of designs. Let dry.

  6. Use the end of cotton swab to add random Periwinkle dots among the designs and let dry.

  7. Brush another even coat of the Decoupage Medium over the surface of the bucket and let dry.

  8. For added protection, brush on a coat of the Satin Varnish to the entire bucket.

  9. Wrap the handle of the bucket with the ribbon securing at the ends, then tie a bow at each end, and trim ends.
