Beeswax ornaments???
It sometimes takes me a while to be inspired.....
We have a hive of bees and this year had a HUGE production of honey. So honey is going to be one of the gifts we give for Christmas this year. Another byproduct of the hives is the beeswax.
Yesterday it suddenly dawned on me that homemade beeswax Christmas ornaments would be cute to go along with the jar of honey! But I've never made these before.
I've been searching the internet today via google searches and have found only a few sites that offer directions. Most sites want to SELL the ornaments.
I bought the ONLY candy mold that WalMart had, which fortunately is little stars. And I'm thinking that the cast iron muffin pan I have which is different flower shapes would make some cute ornaments. Another site or two suggested using shortbread molds, and I have a couple of these. Still, I'd love to find someone who has actually done this so I can ask questions if I run into problems.
So my question is, have any of you made beeswax ornaments?~~Jean~~

Just an update on the ornaments --- I found some great molds that are meant for soaps --- some little cherub/angels, and some decorative hearts. I made a trial run, and worked out some problems and think I've got the hang of it now. Several have turned out very nice and will make great gifts. I'm making another batch tonight. Also, the shortbread stone I have made some nice ones as well.
Just FYI for those who are concerned that these might not be safe on a tree --- from what I've read on the internet, people have been making beeswax ornaments for a couple hundred years. They are very durable. As long as you don't hang them right on top of a string of lights on the tree, I don't think they will melt. I have several that were made for me over 20 years ago and they are still in good condition.~~Jean~~

Your beeswax ornaments will last a long time as long as you don't store them in the attic.
