Default Do you or DH have an expensive hobby?

Unfortunately, DH is into fishing/boating. An old boat that he's been working on, but still a boat. The boat requires fuel, and the old truck he uses to pull the boat needs fuel. Then there's the cost of bait and supplies, and general upkeep for the boat and the truck. It might be different if he would actually catch enough fish to offset some of the expense, but sadly that isn't happening.

Does your DH have an expensive, or at least not-frugal, hobby?

oh dont get me started on this again. hunting/fishing if its not entry fees for tournaments or a 1 day lake permit because the lifetime hunt/fish liscense doesn't cover that its money to replace things hes dropped to the bottom of the lake.

oh! DH and I just had a big discussion about this. He went out and spent $140 on golf clubs today! As you can see by my sig. we have debt to pay off. He didn't even talk to me about it first!

My newest hobby is buying real estate. We are going to have the 2nd home rented very soon!
That will free up $800.00 each month! I am so excited, since we are paying close to $1650 each month for mortgage and utilities! PMI is also a waste of money at 141.00 per month, but, we must wait 2 years from Oct. 12, 2004, so we are getting closer!
    As for my DH's hobbies:
Surfing is close to free since we live 5 miles from the beach...but, if he chooses to surf at his favorite spot in Ocean Beach, it is 20 miles...
Snowboarding is the most expensive, but he usually shares food/gas/lodging
Dirtbiking is free since he uses other people's bikes and camps out, but the drive costs money for the gas!

well...really ALL my crafts are costly. You can do all of them on the cheap, but i get a bit obsessive. Sewing...fabric and notions get costly if you let it get out of hand, knitting and crochet...holy cow i didn't realise yarn could cost so much...it's YARN!! then scrapbooking, sure it's paper...but yeesh that gest costly too what with all the embellishments and markers, albums and such, not to mention special effects developing. Don't get me started on how expensive it would be to do my true craft passion... pottery...gotta get a wheel, a kiln....

My Dh 2 most expensive hobbies are cigerettees and Pepsi. He can't start a day without either. He will drink no other soda but pepsi and drinks it all the time. He smokes about a pack and half a day. More if he's got to drive any distance to work. I've even taken to timing him on the way to long jobs more than 2 hours from home he has one about every 17 to 20 minutes. We've tried everything shots, patches, gum, hipnosis (?). Next month we're gonna try acupuncture. Telling him he's gonna die from smoking doesn't work. He's got aunts in their late 80's that still smoke filterless ciggies.

He also loves to point out that I too have my bad habitits! No book can be bypassed with out at least a look and if its a cookbook its mine!

I second (or is it third?) the DH hunting/fishing hobby. Deer leases, gas to the lease, licenses, taxidemy; and all the same for fishing. Someone at church has suggested DH learn to play golf and I jumped up and said NO WAY - that's just what DH needs is another expensive hobby!!!! Fortunately, DH has no interest in golf!!!

For me - I like to read, but the library is free. My biggest hobby is frugality - and that's not expensive!!!!

Well, it has become an expensive hobby: knitting socks.

Yikes! Buying sock yarn, to quote someone on the Knitty boards, is "as addictive as crack cocaine. And when you get into the high-end brands, it's about as expensive as cocaine!"

Actually, something like Lorna's Laces -- very nice sock yarn -- runs about $10/2 oz skein. 2 skeins needed for a pair of adult socks.

So, expensive. But when you consider that I average a pair of socks every 6 weeks, $20 for 6 weeks' entertainment isn't bad.

some of my hobbies are free like reading and walking but when you getting into my painting and plastic canvas then there's the money part.

My dh needs all the tools for his scraping business, this last week he had to get three differnt small tools ( don't know what kind) . He has like eight different tool boxes with tools in them.

On the other hand we have one hobbies that we do together and that is fishing, he took me fishing last year on free fishing weekend and I loved it. We got fishing license for both of us this year and plan on going tommorrow morning and probably every weekend. I like this hobbie because we also bring our dd's with us, so it's quality family time together.
