Help with a rug...

I'm a beginner crafter. I know how to knit and crochet simple things like dishcloths and scarves. I'm getting more crafty so I can save money in the household area.

I just noticed a really cold spot by the door in our hallway, its freezing because of the draft (BTW, i live in an apartment building and utilites are included so no worries about heating costs).

I want to make a rug, maybe out off old rags or sheets or something but i have no idea how to go about it...

Any ideas?

i am working on braiding a rug. i took strips of fabric an inch wide and what ever length. then braided them together. sewed each strip after it was braided. now all i have to do is sew it together.
