What are you crafting this summer?
Is anyone crafting this summer? I have a couple of UFOs on the needles in my knitting basket, a bag to carry my treasures at the flea market and a scarf that will be a Christmas gift. I have a quilt that I need to finish quilting, I never tend to do much except piecing in the summer because I like to hand quilt them and it is so hot to have them in your lap in the heat of the summer. I have been making neck coolers for DH to sell at his work and my FIL sells them out of his shop, they are fabric tubes that have the water absorbing crystals in them and you wear one around your neck and cools you like an evaporative cooler, they really do work and they sell like hotcakes. I only have a few cents in each one I sell them $5 dollars each for the plain ones and $7 for the really nice ones that have double rows and seperate sections that wrap around the neck.

Hi!
I'm working on a few different things ...
One thing is that I'm crocheting the little first rounds of a granny square and am tying them off [they're from odds and ends of yarn so are all different colors.]
Those will be crocheted together for afghans to give to local homeless shelters.
And also, I'm making crosses out of plastic canvas [and yarn, of course *lol*] and those I hope to get to Samaritan's Purse so that they can be put in some of the boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
Love,
Jennelle

I'm finishing a hardanger dresser scarf. Also an inset applique piece that involves goldwork, quilting and beading. And some cross-stitch Christmas ornaments, etc. You can see pics on my blog (link below). Actually, I'll be lucky if I have time to do anything! We're heading on a three week vacation this week. I have no idea what kind of time I'll have while gone.

I made my first Miniature bear. I was a little disappointed because he ended up being 3 1/2" tall, and I really wanted him just under 2". I'm not sure I can go any smaller. But I'm going to try.

I'm doing plastic canvas needlework. Found a kit for a doorstop (3 geese in a tulip bed) for 50 cents at a yard sale. Then found an 'ugly' tote bag (clear plastic with big yellow flowers and trim) filled with several rectangular and a round plastic canvas. I got that for 49 cents at a thrift store. So with the scraps of yarn from the kit and the plastic canvas I found at the thrift store, I made a round trivit (alternating colors to use up bits and pieces of yarn), two XL coasters (alternating colors to use up bits and pieces of yarn), a 6x6 square trinket box (hunter green and white), two cross bookmarks (hunter green and white).
Just today I found a 3/4-full box of scrap yarn at an estate sale for $1. Might be too big for plastic canvas but will give it a try. Otherwise, I might have to pick up a crochet hook and try to teach myself to crochet.
Does anyone have any good patterns/books/advice on learning how to crochet? Maybe start with a potholder, dishcloth or slippers?Kim
