    Default This weeks Christmas projects...

I am making some things for dd, I found some very soft fabric and flannels at Wal-Mart and Joann's this weekend for 49c to 99c a yard. DD is much like me that she doesn't usually like tight PJs, so I am making some caftans for her. I do not sew very well but I can do this project.... I am also making some scrunchies, she loves to wear them... The caftans will only cost $2.00 or $3.00 to make, depending on fabric and length. I have one finished and it's not to bad for a gal that doesn't sew.....Any tips would be appreciated.....

What is a caftan? You should post a pic and show off your handiwork.

Man, I wish I could sew. I would just whip Tyler up some winter clothes and pajamas instead of running around buying them.

A caftan is a sort of African dress, like a big square of material sewn up the sides with a hole for your head.... Like Stevie Wonder wore all the time.... They were wildly popular in the 70's....

The only tip I would give you is to make sure you wash the flannel in hot water before you begin to cut and sew. If you don't, it will shrink when you do wash them.

Cool idea! Never thought of making something like that for dd.

Great idea Lori, that would be perfect for my sisiter!

Sherry, you can sew too. They are sooo many of us here that would help you every step of the way. And PJ's for Tyler are just about one of the easiest projects to start you out with. They would also cost about 1/4 of what you pay in the stores!

For years I made all my nieces and nephews PJ's and nightgowns for Christmas. They loved them! You can find really fun fabric. Just watch that most of them are not flame retardant.

If you would like help, just ask, or you can email me.

    Good Luck,
    Diana
