    Default Here's a fun crafter challenge !!!

Ok I read the post on "What do make for someone who doesn't appreciate HM gifts" ..... We are all so smart and crafty and like to help each other out so......... Ok here's the challenge.....
We could list here a person or person's that are hard to make HM gifts for, give the gender and a little personal info and we can all brainstorm on what to make for them....
I am about done for this year but this would be so much fun to help...... How about ???
    Ready Set GO.....................

Oh this sounds like so much fun.

    - my mom. She doesn't like anything my dh makes. She is 76 and doesn't want anything (that type). I've already made her a sampler quilt which she loved but I'm at a loss.

    - my oldest son - he also doesn't like woodworking and him and his wife are almost impossible to buy for. He is a teacher, she a stay at home mom.

Here's a challenge- my husbands 93 yr old grandmother. She still lives at home, still drives, still plays cards every Sat night with the ladies. I've pretty much done it all for her, and I've run out of ideas! Any inspiration would be very welcome!

CJ- how about new quilted pot holders, or hotpads for your mom? Does she still cook?

Lori - I don't think my mom would like anything dh made, kwim. I made her potholders once and she told me, I don't use those, I use oven mitts. She is a toughie but I love her dearly.

    My son teaches junior high.

Patchwork - how about some trivets made with cards in mind. Paint on the different suits of cards and then verothane it heavy duty. You could also make her a quilted vest with cards in mind also.

Woohoo! Thanks CJ- I'll take it one step further- how about if I decopaged some actual cards, or color copies of actual cards done an a scanner, to a wooden trivet, then coated with verethane? My mind is racing now- coasters also, for their sodas! Thanks for the inspiration!

    Patchwork,
I had a lady send me a playing card holder in a trade we did in my group, made with plastic canvas, It's basically just a circle that you slide your cards into, makes them easier to hold. Also someone made me a case that held 2 packs of card a notepad and a small pencil. The card holder would be simple to make, and could be made in any colors she liked.

Angie- I like your idea- I think I have a "theme" going here! Heaven, my son is 13 also- 14 this Sunday. How about a warm fleece blanket? I bought some fleece the other day to make my mom a car blanket, and he felt it and said, "Oh, Mom, I love how soft this is! I want a blanket too"! I bought the micro-fleece at Joann's and used my 50% off coupon from my flyer. There are lots of directions on the web for fleece blankets. Or, how about a quilt made from flannel squares? Doesn't have to be big, just something he could curl up with to watch movies, etc. This would be really easy to make- just keep it simple- same sized squares. If we are going with store bought gifts- how about a new pair of headphones? Or, cd's if you have a cd burner on your computer? Is he into skateboarding? A subscription to a skateboarding mag. Or some skateboarding t-shirts. I'm just trying to think of things my son likes. He will be getting golf related items this year- he made the varsity golf team this year- yup- 8th grade and on the varsity team! (his mom is slightly proud of him...lol)

Heaven how about a gift basket for him. Make it a entertainment basket with a movie he might want, a couple cans of Coke, some microwave popcorn along with a cd or two. See if you can come up with movie passes for two and throw it in.

You might also want to give him a gift basket "just for Men" - deodarant, shaving cream, a razor, hair brush, along with a sports illustrated magazine thrown in. Inside the sports magazine could be a coupon book for MacDonalds if he enjoys eating there with his friends.

CJ, can you make some throw pillows to match the quilt you gave your mom? Or a matching wall hanging?

For your son and dil, how about a quilted briefcase type bag for his papers and grade books, and a quilted cassarole carrier for her? Or some aprons for her and some slippers with heatable rice inserts for him?

Heaven, boys that age are hard, to be sure. I think I'd go with gift certificates and a toiletries gift basket. There are several freebies for guys out there right now, and maybe a t-shirt/jersey from his favorite team. If he has a favorite team and the colors aren't weird ones, an afghan with a matching pillow to lounge on while he watches the games are a good thing. I did this for bil before he married my sis, and his friends still try to slip out of the house with his crocheted floor pillow and afghan.

Patchwork-How about placemats for card playing ladies--simply laminate, or use the clear shelf liner over a deck of cards, cut to size. Pictures of the grandkids in a pretty frame are always winners here
Mamma-I have done theme gifts of homemade aprons, paired with a marked down (or garage sale or homemade family) cookbook.
