Some dollar stores sell balloons which can be attached to a chair. You might even be able to find a paper cut out that can stand on the table.

What about a large tray of non mayo based veggie & starch salad? (starch being pasta, rice, taters etc)

You can always add chips & dip, individual popcorn with DIY shaker seasonings bought in bulk form. I too like the idea of other desserts - cookies, cupcakes, bars etc - vs just cake only.

For the drinks - I'd opt for 2L's and spend the $ on disposable cups. Heck, even buy coloured markers so they can 'doodle' on their cups so they know who's is who's - market it as 'eco friendly'

    You must be so proud

Here is the punch recipe I use:
    1 large box strawberry jello
    1 quart boiling water
    2 cups sugar
    1 quart cold water
    5 teaspoons lemon juice
    1 can pineapple juice
    1 2 liter gingerale

Mix first 3 ingredients until dissolved
Add cold water, lemon juice, and pineapple juice
Freeze mixture. This can be frozen in gallon size bags. I use the large plastic ice cream pails.
Thaw 5 to 8 hours(Depending on room temperature)
Pour in gingerale when base is mushy

I like the balloons idea as well, not sure if I can pull it off. We are leaving directly from graduation to the dinner. I am going to think along those lines though, maybe bows on the back of each chair...I have lots of red christmas bows. (red and black are the colors) Maybe I will sneak peek between now and then and see what their chairs look like so I know how I can attach things.

    You are all so great!

Yah, I suck at this money stuff, I know. That's why I'm here.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to pop in, and although this is not food related (we are doing a small family dinner out) I was able to get all graduation decorations at the dollar store for less than $10 and I'm lovin' it.

Thanks all for the suggestions here.

Great job! I bought a few decorations there so far. I have my menu narrowed down. BBQ's, potato salad, fresh fruit salad, chips, tuna salad. My mom is doing the beans and a broccoli salad. MIL doing a sweet fruit salad and another salad.

I think for drinks I am going to do water and a keg of root beer. Besides the cake does that sound like I covered the food bases?

I about feel over some of these kids are having professionally catered parties or things like KFC and Famous Daves. That has got to get expensive
