Making a gingerbread house for the first time!
Wish me luck girls! So far I've got two sides to my house baked, 2 sets of shutters, and 3 stepping stones...
I don't know what I did with the recipe (ok i lied, i cut the butter in half and didn't put as much molasses as it called for) It tastes like a bland grahm cracker instead of gingerbread, but luckily it's not being made just to be eaten

Good for you Heather! I cheat and use graham crackers to make the house attaching everything with royal icing. We do these every year with our homeschool group and the kids really get into it!!!

Thanks you guys!
I was thinking at first I would just buy a kit, but I decided I wanted the whole experience
Is it going to hold together if I use regular cake frosting? Or should i use the recipe for the 'cement' frosting...and what is confectioners sugar? Is that powdered sugar? or would powdered sugar work for that?

Yes, icing sugar is powdered sugar(it is here, I'm sure it is there too
) I tried regular icing and it didn't "hold", the icing has to be a bit stiffer. I would use the recipe.
Have fun, is Ayla helping too?

Yep, confectioners sugar is also called powdered sugar, icing sugar and 10X sugar.
You really will need royal icing to put it together or it won't hold Heather. Here is a recipe or 2 for you. http://www.pastrywiz.com/season/royal.htm
Good luck and have fun! Don't forget to take a picture!

thanks for the tips and recipes!

I want ayla to help out, but right now I am just rolling out the dough which is hard enough for me as it is
I might make her a tiny cottage that she can just 'have at it' and decorate all on her own though, that'd be neat!
