Smile Help me "WOW" hubby for his birthday!!!

    Hi Ladies,
My hubby will be celebrating his birthday at the beginning of September. I really want to do something that will "WOW" him this year, but is has to be on a very tight shoestring budget. It looks like we may be going over to Montana that weekend to stay at my parent's lake home (if the repairs from the house flooding are done by then) and we'll may be taking his best friend and their family with us. His best friend's birthday is about 2 weeks before hubby's and my twin sons will celebrate their birthday 4 days before hubby. I just really want to make his day special since he seems to get lost in the shuffle with the twins (and he never has complained). I just want to bless him real good this year because he always puts the needs and wants of all of us ahead of himself.
So...your mission, should you choose to accept it is...help me bless his socks off!!! Any and all great ideas will be greatly appreciated!!!!

    Thanks Gals!!!!

Great idea Debbie! My dh's birthday is next month and I'd really like to do something special for him. He's been working his bootie off to become a real husband and father. He enjoys the verbal encouragement, but what a great opportunity to show him how much we appreciate it.

I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas. I liked that idea about the girly calendar where you replace all the faces with yours.

    Okay, here is my suggestion.

Just because it's a budget birthday doesn't make it less special, in fact I think it's more special as more thought goes into it. How about a birthday starting with wishing him a happy birthday and everyone giving DH a voucher for something you'll do for him. Debbie, yours could be something like a back, foot and leg massage. The boys could give him vouchers for washing the car, mowing the lawn or for some other chore that DH usually does himself. The evening is entirely devoted to DH.

Get the kids to help you make DH's favourite dinner, make sure you know what it is by asking DH. Get one of the kids to make up a printed menu on the computer and this can be placed on the table that has been set with candles and flowers along with your best dinner ware.

The kids will have to eat early as this dinner will be for you and your DH. Have the kids dress in special clothes as they will be waiters. Jasyn can serve the meals in the kitchen and Chris or Josh can serve them at the table and Chris or Josh can serve drinks and remove the dishes when you are finished. All three of them wash up.

The day before the dinner, ask DH what movie he wants to watch and rent it. Even if this is something no one else likes you all have to watch it with him, without complaining. Have a drink and popcorn available if DH wants anything while watching.

I think this type of birthday, with modifications to suit your circumstances, doesn't have to cost much but as it's almost all things you are all doing for him, he'll really feel appreciated and loved.

My best suggestion (and if I could bet on it, without ruining it for both of you....I'd bet DH would choose this if he could ) would be to get the boys to stay over at someone's house for the night. THEN.....do all the things that you never have time to do b/c you have kids around all the time.....like, primp, dress sexy and cook his fav. meal. Have candles lit and music going when he gets home, have on your sexy outfit already........Ok you get my drift..... No phone calls, no t.v., just you and him.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

Well....of course the first thing that comes to my mind is bubblewrap....

How about if you farm out the kiddos for the evening (wouldn't even have to be the whole night...)
spread a blanket on the living room floor....
    soft music....
    candles....
picnic basket with cheese, sliced fruit, wine/cider....
you in something slightly classier than bubblewrap... ( )
and leave a trail of rose petals from the door he'd be entering leading to you!

The - um - rest, I think Jeff can figure out on his own!!

Hey that was what I was going to say

I think those are some wonderful ideas, I like the idea of the kids being the servers, but then again if they weren't there then you could serve Jeff yourself wearing the bubblewrap.....

Since you both said how wonderrful he has been how about some sort of Thank you gifts, a card thanking him for fixing something specific with a bit of candy attatched, a card thanking him for something else he's done and a gc for a foot massage etc.... Reinforce the positive behaviors and let him know you noticed his effort. Definately stock up on bubble wrap!
