My youngest DD Amanda was in preschool this past year since I taught there. I was aware that a lot of the parents were "Higher end" than we were, but I never realized how much until today.
I got a call from the mom of one of the other 3 year olds. It seems that they are having a birthday party for their 1 & 3 year old and wanted to invite all the preschool kids.
They live in the Peninsula, which is the expensive neighborhood on the lake. They are having the party at their house - and the entire family is invited. It is Carnival. They are having a bounce house, airbrush tatoo artist, cotton candy maker, popcorn, clown and a show by a former Disney cruise ship entertainer. Oh, and they are feeding all of us hot dogs and hamburgers!
I figured it was just for the kids, so I would go and take Amanda. But she invited all 4 of us!
First off, I can't imagine spending the amount it is going to cost on a party for my 1 & 3 year old and all their friends and family - so maybe I am more frugal than I thought. Secondly, when you do something this big for the 1 st and 4 th birthdays how do you top it year after year?
But, on the other hand the frugal part of me says "Yay!, free dinner, and entertainment for my kids."
I am just stunnned at the extravagant party and I am anxious to see it Sunday night.
Have fun at the party, then after your girls are in bed, you and DH can laugh at what the other parents spent on this extravaganza. Oh well, at least they are providing jobs for the clown, air brush tatoo artist, people that own the "moonwalk", etc. Somebody has to spend too much money to keep the economy humming. It just doesn't have to be us.

Reminds me when my daughter was in kindergarten, it was a different school than she goes to now, I only put her in because I was familiar with the name and the church it was affiliated with. I was nervous about the birthday parties because I knew most of the parents were better off financially than we were. Well most of the houses and parties turned out pretty average for upper middle class, but we drove up to one house.... I'm sorry, MANSION... this place was huge! and very elaborate.. they had their own miniature golf coure for pete's sake...not to mention a huge wine cellar and more rooms than you can imagine.... I had no idea the little girl's dad was a pitcher for the NY Yankees and the San Diego Padres!

LOL! I don't know! I have a stash of art kits that I usually use for birthday parties, but those are mostly for my 7 year old's friends. DH said we were getting a box of crayons. It won't be anything fancy that's for sure. Maybe one of those playdoh kits. I'd love to see if her mom will let her play with playdoh in the fancy house!
This is a party for a one and three year old? sounds a bit like mom and dad are living their youth out through their kids eh? It's a good opportunity to talk to your kids about what's important and what's not. Enjoy their extravagance!

I to was wondering what kind of gift you'd take (or myself if I were in your shoes). And I bet that playdoh will either be tossed or played with outside LOL
I hope your girls have a nice time. It does sound like it'll be fun.
Oh and Cheryl...you gonna get a tattoo
