Default Weddings on or near holidays

I hate them!! Yes I have a long weekend, doesn't mean I want to spend it going to a wedding.

My cousin the weekend before X-mas a few years ago.
My friend Memorial weekend.
DH's friend weekend before ThanksGiving.

I have and want to dostuff on and around holidays, make it a weekend I and most peolple arn't planning somthing.Or like the weddings the weekend before a holiday times I am not already busy preparing for a big holiday.

I know some peple probably like weddings on a holiday so they don't have to take the extra time off but I hate it!!

Your opinions please

Yea I think having it on extended weekends is good for people who don't want to, or can't take off extra time from work..

I dont' get invited to very many weddings, and holidays are always a bummer for us anyways, I guess I really wouldn't mind them being on a holiday, it might take away the stress of the holiday for us.

I prefer not to travel on holidays or close to them. We do our long distance visiting of relatives on non holiday periods.

Because of my aversion to travel on holidays or close to them, I would more than likely decline an invitation for that time period.

So you got a vote for me against holiday weddings that require travel.

I have had friends do their weddings on the sunday before a monday holiday--they all got the sunday night discount, while people didn't have to work the next morning. I wasn't happy with these at all, don't mess with my long weekends!

I think people should be able to get married whenever they want. However, I think they need to understand that if the time is inconvenient for others, they should not be obligated to attend.

DH and I got married December 26. (That was when he could get leave.) We chose to have a small, private ceremony rather than force our family and friends to adjust thier holidays around us.
(Saved a ton of money too, by not having the huge extrvaganza.)

My parents got married on New Years Day, for several reasons.

1) My grandparents got to keep her as a tax deduction for another year.

2) They could get the church easier.

3) They wouldn't have to work on their anniversary.

4) All their friends were home from college on break.

I agree that people should get married when it suits them.

I had another friend that got married on Dec. 24th. Second wedding for both of them. They didn't tell us we were going to their wedding- just invited us all over for a party. Santa came and delivered small gifts to all of us- then asked the hostess, what she wanted for Christmas. She said "to get married", so he pulls a Bible out of his Santa sack and proceeded to marry them (it was her minister, dressed as Santa). What a riot!

I liked your story, sunshine.

My FH and I are (most likely) going to be married on/around Thanksgiving because my dad will have time off and will be able to travel. It is going to be a small family affair so we don't really have to worry about planning it around a bunch of different schedules. It helps that my grandpa is a minister.

I think that the couple getting married should pick a time that is good for them and get married when they want to. Christmas/winter themed weddings are beautiful, imo!

I got married the day before Easter this time, the first time was the day after Christmas.

I think everyone should have there wedding when they want too, if it interferes with someones holiday plans, then they don't have to come.

we got married labor day weekend and if it messed up someone's weekend plans they didn't have to come..
BUT when we booked the church and the hall that was the only day in September they had opened and we wanted to get married in September so. I think people should get married whenever they like.

I think people should get married whenever they want to. I also think that guests can choose not to attend if they don't like the date.

That being said, I prefer non-holiday weddings myself simply because we have a huge family and lots of holiday gatherings. A long weeked here might mean that we can make the trip up to see my grandma or other relatives.

Our wedding date was chosen because that was the date we started dating (exactly six years prior to our wedding). It turned out to be a week after Easter, which we wouldn't have chosen on purpose, but that worked out nice for us because the church was already filled with fresh flowers! I don't think having it a week after a holiday bothered anyone anyways.
