    Default Need Your Help

We are having Julia's 5th birthday party on February 4th. We invited 8 kids (4 boys, 4 girls) and I'm wracking my brain, trying to think of a frugal craft/activity the kids can do.

Last year I had them decorate their own sugar cookies that I had baked. We used icing, sprinkles, etc. It kept them busy for part of the party.

I'll come up with some games, and we may buy a pinata, but we'll see how cheap we can find one. However, a game or two, lunch, cake and a pinata is not going to fill up two hours. So, I'd love if you could help me come up with a frugal craft I could have the kids do.

One idea I had was to go to Michael's or the Rag Shop and pick up some all-plastic picture frames, glue magnetic strips on the back (I already have these), and have the kids decorate the frames with stickers, etc. (No paint...very messy.) We'll see. I'm not totally sold on this idea. I'd love to hear any ideas you have!

    Thanks in advance!

Amy if you can find some CD's that you don't use (like the AOL ones) have then decorate those. They become a very nice suncatcher and can be part of the goody bag to take home.

another cute idea is getting some paper plates & letting them make masks out of them & punch out a hole on each side & put some string through them so they can wear them.

How 'bout a Valentines day craft, Maybe glue the little heart candies onto a stiff cardboard frame. You can have them design a happy birthday banner with clip art and markers and glue sticks. Try games with little prizes, motivate the little monsters to participate-Hokey Pokey, teach the Hustle or Electric Slide, Freeze when the music stops, take photos with the birthday girl and print them out while they are there. Good luck--enjoy. ----Kellie

Here are the instructions for making a pinata:

If you have a digital camera, you could let them take photos of each other and print them out to take home.

We did make your own pizza a few times using english muffins, a jar of sauce, shredded mozzarela cheese, olives, cooked and drained and cooled hamb. meat. The kids loved it.
