I remember as kids we always used food coloring with 1 teaspoon of vinegar per mug.
Boil a kettle of water
Take several coffee mugs and place 1 teaspoon of vinegar in each mug. Then add several drops of food coloring. Let each child make their own color.
Add boiling water (only fill about 3/4) and stir. Use a teaspoon and slowly lower the egg, leave in until desired darkness is reached.
To make a design, just use parafin wax or a candle to make a design on the egg before coloring.
If you have one of those wire holders (that come in a Easter egg coloring set) you can dip your eggs in several colors for a striped effect.
I wanted to try the natural egg dye this year, but was out voted. We do the food coloring or pellets. We do all kinds of prepping: crayons, rubber bands, tape, etc.
