    Talking Breaking the news...

A couple of weeks ago, we broke the news to dd that WE are the easter bunny. She's 10 and too old to not know.

This morning, while she was asleep, I walked toward her bedroom and said in a high pitched voice "Here comes the easter bunny" Got to her room and she pulls the covers over her head and said "Arghhh"

I sat the easter basket on her bed and said "Here's your easter basket. I'm the easter bunny and just wanted to deliver your goodies."

She peeks out, sees the chocolate and smiles.

She thought she wouldn't get another basket since we broke the news.

Took a basket full of chocolates to mom this morning and she said "You shouldn't have spent your money on me...but I'm glad you did. It's just what I needed!"

It was nice to see them smile today!

I had to break the news to my 8 yr old son recently. Starting with the toothfairy. I went to bed early and told my hubby to put a buck under Alex's pillow before he went to bed. Of course he forgot. The next morning Alex found his tooth. He came to me and said "mom, tell the truth, are you the toothfairy?" So we had a sitdown and went over the facts of life. He's definitely old enough for the truth, and I would rather him find out from us that from some insensitive kid at school. I told him not to tell his brothers, we would tell them when it's time. Santa, Easterbunny, etc are a part of childhood that I don't want them to miss (plus I just like the shopping part).

We forgot about the "tooth fairy" when my kids were really little, and we just told them that they must have been extremely busy, and we should leave a note for them. It worked... My 10 year old still leaves his tooth under his pillow.... I know that my kids realize we are the Easter Bunny, Santa, etc but they still get excited when they come... LOL....

ds1 told us he doesn't believe in the easter bunny or the tooth fairy. Ok, no problem. Then he asked if it's ok to believe in santa. I was careful not to burst his bubble. Then he looked at me sideways and asked me..."even if I know there isn't such a person as santa...will he still leave me presents??"

When my mom told me here was no Santa the only thing I said was 'Will I still get presents?' Seems kids don't care as long as they don't miss out! LOL!

Our triplets are 7 and still "believe" in all the faries, bunnies, santa, whatever... I can't imagine telling them... when they ask I will tell the truth.
My oldest daughter found out years ago (she is now 13) but still plays along since she knows who really does the stuff but doena't want to spill the bean to the little ones who believe.
The tooth fairly has forgetten before and there must have been too many teeth last night but I am sure the tooth fairy will come tonight

my oldest son realized at 9, he was late coming to not to believe.
my youngest now was just told and didn;'t care either. But he still believes in the fairy and Santa. So hopefully one more year to have some fun for me and hubby getting everything ready.

It's always difficult telling little ones about Santa, tooth fairy, etc. I think it may be worse for us than the children. I remember when I found out that it was not Santa who was eating the cake and drinking the milk my mom left on the table, but my dad. The funny thing is, I don't remember how I felt. I think we grown ups lose some of the joy and magic of the holidays when we have to tell the truth to the children.
