Question ISO inexpensive gift ideas for a 7 yr old girl

This is for Dave's cousin's dd who will be turning 7. We've been invited to her birthday party , which none of us want to go to (not even Kathryn & Lauren), but Dave insists that we go because they are family. That's a whole other post right there We are not close, so I really don't even know what she's into these days. I contacted her mother to ask, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I'm looking for an inexpensive gift that doesn't come off as "cheap". This family has oodles of money and doesn't get the "frugal" concept.

The best I've come up with so far is a stamp set by Melissa & Doug for $9.99:

Do you have any freebie makeups and such that you're not really that fond of the colors or something Michelle? My girls and their friends loved, LOVED makeup to play with at that age. My suggestion would be a cheap little makeup bag filled with freebie makeups and samples of bubble baths, etc... .

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

How about a Barbie doll, crafts, books or a game?

Give what you can afford to give and would be a nice gift your girls would like. I have found with people like that, that no matter what you do , things are rarely acceptable. So, do what you like and forget what they think.
    Good luck!

    I like the stamp set.

My niece who just turned 7 is way into Polly Pocket dolls, Hello Kitty, anything pink, and really soft stuffed animals.

I gave her a clearance pink poodle pillow (those microbead things) that was $3, a Hello Kitty Charm, and a Hello Kitty necklace that I bought from my Avon brochure (campaign 18.) I think the necklace was orig. $8 and the charm was $4, so for her whole gift I paid just about $13 after my discount.

She's a little young, but you might start stockpiling $6 silver jewelry from www.silverjewelryclub.com . My DD's tween friends love the gifts my daughter gives them.

Sometimes the American Girl site has some terrific specials-- you might check there (or check back for future gifts)

Art supplies are generally a hit with that age group (girls or guys). Crayons, markers, paints, canvas, beads, etc.

www.onestock.com has shares of stock you can purchase , some are pretty inexpensive (I did this for my son's 21st birthday)

Do a search for money origami-- you can fold $$ bills into cute shapes. So a one dollar bill , foled into the shape of a ring- doesn't seem so cheap

I'm another vote for art/craft supplies.

That stamp set is neat. You could also do something like those foam craft kits (I keep looking at these, but my DD is too young yet)-- they're around $10-12, cheaper if you have a Michael's nearby and use the weekly sale coupon to get 40% off.

Or what about stickers? You could assemble a basket of stickers and craft materials on your own, or buy something. I've ordered stickers from an online company before for ChemoAngels gifts & they had a sticker of the month club... but of course right now I can't remember the name of the site. There are plenty out there if you do a search, though.
