Default Make your own decorator floor... with wallpaper!

The new issue of Countryside magazine has an article telling how to make an inexpensive decorator floor with wallpaper. I thought this was so clever.

They say to remove all old flooring, then lay ¼" plywood down and fill the seams with lap and leveling compound. Let dry and sand. Then prime the floor with a wall prep.
Use a durable wallpaper, either fabric backed vinyl or any vinyl coated paper. Prepasted paper is not recommended. Use a premixed paste. They say to lay your paper so that the strip at the wall on each side will be the same. You can also add a wallpaper border around the edge or cut one into the center. Smooth the paper with a sponge or squeegee.
You then coat the floor with polyurethane. The more coats you apply, the more durable the floor will be.

That's a great idea ! You would need a glass coat of polyurethane, Thanks for sharing that Sherry !!!!!

It sounds very pretty, but I doubt it would last in my house. With the boys and the dog tearing through at all hours, I suspect that this would be a LOT of work that would have to be repeated quite often!

This sounds so cute and very affordable! I might try it in my craft room first and then who knows! LOL

I saw something similar to this in a magazine a couple of years ago. They had used torn grocery bags to look just like tile on a floor and then put poly on it. This was used in a kitchen and it looked very real...Was so cute...and very frugal
