Painting concrete floors
Has anyone painted their concrete floors? I'm thinking of doing this in DS10's room. He has carpet, and I was thinking I could pull that up, and paint the floor a neutral color and decorate with his same rug. The carpet is nasty because he was a very sick child and threw up a lot when he was little! I have steamed it, shampooed it, and it's still nasty. It's just time for new flooring.
I have a big expense with DD15 going to Haiti in '09, and I just don't want to shell out the cash for new carpet.
My friend did this in her DDs' rooms, and it looked so cute! They painted their names in the center of the floor, and painted groovy flowers, etc.
So, anyone out there familiar with the process? We are on a concrete slab, and the concrete underneath is in good shape...I'm pretty sure. We have a storage room where we left just bare concrete, and it's smooth and has no cracks.
Should I go for it????????? Thanks!Wife to Kevin: 20 years

I have done this before. Yes, it is a good idea. Make sure though before you paint you throughly wash the floor with a product called T.S.P. You can buy it at any hardware store (it comes in a milk carton kind of container). This will lift any grease or dirt or anything on the floor and the paint will stick forever. Have fun!

I think this is a great idea. I have even thought about this myself. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

After washing with TSP, be sure to prime the concrete with an appropriate primer/sealer. Then and only then should you apply the finish coat.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
